If you are riding Belle Mon.-Fri. now untill spring breakup you must have a radio and call out your km. if on the way up and a logging truck is on the way down you must yeld to the loaded down truck. there are a few pullouts to be used, road is barely wide enough to pass on and if you are on your way up and meet a truck coming down and you are not in a pullout be prepared to get off the road as they can't get those trucks stopped on the icy road. trucks are getting onto Belle Road at 3.5 just before the upper parking lot.

What kind of radio and what channel do we need to use? A group of us will be heading up next week on Thursday and will likley ride bell Thursday afternoon possibly Friday....

There are a lot of UHF radios that can be programmed. BC forestry should be able to get the frequency for the haul area. There is typically a sign posted at the base of every haul road providing a warning and the frequency in use but I would check with Forestry to be sure. Our group got the UHF Motorolas for $125 each and they also pick up the RCs nicely. Crystal clear but not long range, average range of 8KM, 4KM over big hills. No your cobra radios from wally mart will not work.

They've been logging out of that spot for close to a year or more and now they want everyone to radio up??
it is either that or pay the price that one sledding group paid the other day when I met them coming up with no warning. the reason now is that the snow banks are now in so far that there is not enough room for the truck and oncoming traffic. the sign has been there all year, heed the advice or not, your choice.

Personally Barry i have no problem with it, Hotrod has FSR radios we can use! But you've got the cross country ski club using that access and not all snowmobilers who ride there read S&M so you'll have those groups who probably won't realize active logging is going on. Threre may have to be extra signage posted to make people more aware because honestly we've drove up there numerous times and never took notice of the active logging sign!

The frequency would be great Barry. Hopefully it is something common like one of the Ladd channels. :beer:

Barry is there anyway to have the guys in the shack at the start of the trail with a common two way radio that most of us carry so that we could radio up through them or something. Not sure how we would get hold of a radio to program a frequency to let the logging guys know we are coming up?

We've had that happen at silent pass where the booth at the beginning of the road holds you until trucks give the all clear.

I think that might be a good solution as there are going to be a lot of guys riding that don't realize they need the radios. There has been an active logging sign on Bell for a while and lots of guys are probably not even noticing anymore

one very simple rule if you dont have a radio, wait for an empty truck and follow it in.

the solution is going to be as follows. as soon as I can buy a radio, maybe today we will have our collector in the lower parking lot with the radio collecting fees there. we will call out that we are leaving the landing and he will hold all traffic untill the truck has passed him at the bottom. your wait will be no more that 5-10 minutes
this will only have to be done Monday to Friday.
