So Friday afternoon I started washing my brute force. Unwrapped the which to wash it outgot it out and everything was going fine until I started wrapping it up. It was having problems so I thought the battery was dead. I fired the brute up and went at it again. Then the brute and the battery and everything went dead. I looked under the seat and the terminal had broken apart. Still thought nothing of it. It's 4 years old and has been covered in mud so often. I hooked up a new battery and the brute started like a dream, but the which wold not work. I would press the button and the solenoid would just click. As if the battery was dead. So finally at 1:30 AM I got upset took the whole winch and cable off. Any idea what it might be? It still spins on free spool so it's not seized

Every now and then I pull my entire winch apart as well. It's very simple just pay attention to what goes where when you do it. You would be surprised how much crap is in there. I clean everything right down to the brushes.
With the relay block actually disconnect the wires and clean each one thoroughly then apply a dielectric grease when you reinstall.

It sounds like it may be the relay decribed earler... I would check the Warn Website for recalls... they sent me one hassle free at no charge... saved me alot of $$$$

I had the same problem and it was the sealed relay block with the 6 or so studs on the top, when i took it to 4 wheel parts he gave me a new one at no charge as mine was re-called due to fire hazard.
