Warm up on cluster and limited

2016 xm 800, cluster shows 4 bars and 50 deg c, but happened a few times today where warm up comes up and limps at 6000 rpm, shut it off and restart it and it's good for a while

Last half of the day seemed fine

Anyone ever seen this??

Sounds like your sending unit is on its way, sending false info to the ecu.

I had my gauge do all kinds of funny things and it ended up being moisture on the board. The housing was all cracked and the seal was broken.

Engine is also limped at 6000 rpm also

Doing some research, possible oil pump feed back also causes it to be in warm up mode, even tho engine is warm at operating temp

Does it not get its temperature information from one source, the sender? If everything else is working on your cluster then i would say it is ok and it is getting false info from the sender. This would cause it to go into limp mode as the ecu would receive the same info. thinking there is an overheat issue going on.

Not over heat

Warm up, like it's cold



I'll have to look but only think there is one temp sensor which would go to ecm first

Then signal out to cluster to say warm up

Thinking it was wet or something, cause the last 3 hours of the day it stopped doing it

Sled had foot of snow on it since Christmas with out the cover

On our '14 (same gauge design as yours), rain was a problem. When it was outside, did you get any rain or melting? Could it be that the gauge leaked? I have also seen other gauges do funny things when they were wet (like Jsymes said above) from riding in the rain, and/or ots of pow on the warmish days causing moisture in the gauge area.

Unplug it and dry it out by the wood stove and see if it is still goofy. Ours was replaced on warranty.
