I haven't heard much about drastic price increases but i have heard that you will no longer be able to purchase racing fuel through retail by 2011 or 2012. Anyone else hearing these things?

The problem is leaded race fuels, Sunoco makes unleaded race gas. and like has been said nobody knows for sure. airlines use 98% of the leaded fuels that are consumed worldwide.

Don't know what you mean by "retail"? If you need a wholesale distributor, you could buy it from Specialty, another dealer or directly from the manufacturer (VP/Sunoco/etc). Are you talking bulk? or that they are going to stop manufacturing it? The race fuel manufacturers will never go along with this as not very many people buy large quantities of race fuel due to its volatile nature (no matter what form it is packaged in - bulk tanker truck or 5 liter pails) no major wholesale distributor will be willing to purchase big quantities to have it sit in the tanks or jugs and go bad. If you need a wholesale license, then someone will get one and be willing to sell it. The very volatile nature of race fuel will determine how it is sold, its simply not a large volume product. If we are forced to buy 1000's of gallons at a time, then I know I'd be willing to purchase a bulk amount with a bunch of people (i.e. 10 people buying 50 gallons each) and everyone pays accordingly and takes their amount. If this ain't possible, they will still have to sell Av gas by the liter.....:D

So long as they are making it, they will find a way to sell it to you.

Right, i guess i should of clarified what i meant by retail. It wasnt that they were going to stop making it, just that you couldnt purchase it unless you were using it strictly for aircraft so im guessing there would be some kind of license you would need to have the stuff. Although i did here that this was supposed to happen a few times now and it keeps getting put off.... lets hope this trend continues!

What they keep trying to do is completely stop and leaded fuel from entering canada except for aviatioin use.. And AV gas is nowhere's near the same as race gas.. A perfect example is a guy i know has ran race gas in his turbo and had no issues then he was told that LL110 was the same as C111.. His sled made it 24km's down the trail before it blew the motor..

Thats interesting im no expert but as far as i know there is no 110LL. The only Low lead spec av gas is av100LL. it is sapposed to be 1.8 per litre but the only person i can find in edmonton to sell it, charges closer to 2.20 per litre or 450 a barrel so im getting another barrel of torco mach 110 for 535 a little more but i think it's alot safer.

Barry,

I just spoke with my contact here in Whitecourt at the airport and they are selling 100LL for $420 a barrel (205 liters)and $360 if you supply your own barrel. He said he would do better than that on 8 barrels if you were to take them. No you don't need to have a plane to purchase av gas.

Airborne Energy Solutions 780.778.3080 ask for Brian Milligan (my buddy) tell him Darcy sent you.

You don't need an airplane as Sumx54 said. There are lots of places to buy race fuel and Av gas. Remember that Av gas burns white (at least some does anyway :)) and so it will look like your plugs are super lean as they may have a white coating on them, but in reality they are OK. Not sure if all brands of Av gas do this, the one I was using did.

I am wondering what fuel you guys at specialty would reccomend for a apex turbo. i am just installing regulator and was told i can mix up to 14#s. after that i have to use straight race fuel. Any info would be nice. i already talked to Eric about ordering some VP from you guys.

Thats not to bad.. It's 10.00 a barrel more than we charged last winter for a barrel of VP c111.

If you ask twinturbo how av gas worked in his turbo'd sled... Ran for many miles running C111 and only made it 24km's up the trail on av gas before it blew the motor up and cost lots of money.. They thing that you have to remeber about a turbo sled is that if you blow it up the debris also goes thru the turbo and lots of the time means that you also have to rebuild the turbo..
