I cant speak for Alberta as I am in BC
To legally guide in BC you need to have a tenure agreement with the province of British Columbia.
Please see this link for accurate government info:
These are some questions that I would want answered if I was to hire a guide:
Do they have a tenure with the province to be legally guiding in the area ?
How many years have they been in business ?
How long have they been operating in that specific area ?
What level of avalanche training do the guides have ?
What level of first aid are the guides expected to have ?
Do they have a Risk Management Plan in place in case of an emergency and are they working with the local search and rescue ?
Do they have communication from the sledding area to the authorities ? ie 911
If you are being transported to the staging area with your guide, do they have a Class 4 drivers license ?

NOW BACK TO OUR SNOW !!!!!
We have a snowpack of 160cm the Clemina and more in the Allan Creek riding area.
Guests are riding directly from each lot and the trails are actually holding up to the traffic. Clemina trail was excellent all weekend with no major obsticals. Allan creek still has a few small water crossings, but as you gain elevation the trail condition improves quickly.
Excellent snow and riding are the reports from everyone, so if you are thinking of coming up, the answer is yes.
If the conditions keep the way they are and we keep recieving snow, we are aiming to have the trails groomed by the last weekend in November, but things are still tentative.

You guys rule, that trail looked like it would have been fun.
Chappell trail still has a few creek crossings and the trail definately needs more snow accumulation before we can groom. Also a small sluff of land at 20km has dropped an island of trees onto our trail that I will have to head up and take care of before the groomer can get by.
Basically no new snow all week, Still pushing a 160cm base at 6500' the weather has come in this morning and visibility looks to be zero
The alpine of Chappell has many rocks showing still and you need to be cautious, but around the lakes that snow is amazing.
Absolutely blue bird day with less that 20 riders in the area and someone still had to ride by a caribou sign and make tracks in the closure. Please, if your in the trees at Chappell, you are in a closure.
THIS LOOKS BAD FOR ALL OF US, Were you scared of the untouched beautiful open lakes, hills and meadows ?
Please guys, start policing yourselves

Nice Pics. How often does chappel get groomed? Last time we were there was 2 years ago, and omg the trail was bad. Took us just about 2 hours to ride back out that day.

I feel your pain. Chappell is an extremely long trail with very large grooming costs and relatively little use compared our other areas(but killer snow). We hit it every thursday night in the grooming season and typically only charge for two days afterward and this does not cover the grooming costs. We do what we can with it, in cold weather it stands up well, but warmer temps are hard on it.

Sweet pics!! Definately gets the blood pumping for early season riding.
Rode allen today trail is ROUGH needs snow frosure same with up top.....still found powder....on the way up in the mourning at about 6 km there was a sled that had caught fire burnt a nice hole in the ground.. as we went down what was left was towed down ..coulda done a clean up around it still some carbs and shat left and watch for the hole its about 3 feet deep in the middle of the trail..

we rode chappel on fri. and allen sat. about a 4 ft. base with 1-2 ft. on top. all areas need snow as it is getting used up as well as wind blown. pretty good early season riding. new xp is pretty awesome for a stock sled.
that was my buddies ol' ladies sled... hehehe! they just got full insurance 2 days ago! he's pumped, wants to get a summit! thanx to all that helped out and sorry about the crater on the trail, as for the clean up... are you for real? it was a pool of plastic, 
you are obviously NOT one of the many that stopped to help or you would know the time we took to get what we did off the hill! sorry you feel that way . allen is great! but get a cushion for your ass on the trail in and out, til you boys groom it. but lots a snow up top, not many rocks, could use more snow we luv powder!

Its hammering down south of town. If I was riding in the next few days, I would hit Chappell for sure ! The snow that fell today was crazy. We had to go up to remove the land sluff of trees that had fallen into the trail. 6" fell on us today in 7hrs and its still hammering down. No alpine today just hard work Its was not so bad at Allan, but still snowing heavily. Should make for a great weekend.
