i purchased the TSS Instaboost this fall. Brandon, and the crew installed it. I took it to Revy for the weekend, and it ran like ****. Was throwing check engine lights, and rev limiter. I decreased the weight on the clutch so the rev limiter was being maxed. Brought the sled back to TSS, and they had to clip off a quarter of the spring for the blow off valve whcih they thought would fix the problem but it didn't so I left there for a few more days having to drive back to Calgary with no sled. Went back a week later, and picked it up. They told me it was a plugged fuel filter, and that i must have pumped something in the tank last season. The sled ran fine before I brought it to them but Turbos require more fuel so I thought fine. MAybe it was me. When I got home I ran all the fuel I got from them through a filter, and recovered quite a bit of red teflon looking stuff which looks like a thread sealant. Anyhow i changed the filters again, and filtered the fuel in the tank. The sled still did not run good, and kept flashing a check engine light. All fluids were still good. Brought the sled into Bow Cycle, and had them reboot the ECM. Last weekend I went out, and the sled ran awesome for 1.5 days, and then flashed the check engine light at me again, and started to run like **** again. Anyone know what this is? I have my sled down at Bow Cycle again to reboot, and look over. TSS still hasn't phoned me from a message I left after picking it up the last time. I liked Brandon but I doubt I will ever spend a dollar there again never mind the $13,000 i have already spent with very ****ty service. Must be too busy now to offer quality anymore. My 2 cents.

That sucks! I've got over 500km on my 2015 T3 with my aero. However, I've got the same money into mine as you do in yours, with out any real "extras". The thing runs great, so much so, it's as if it was put on at factory! No codes, no bogs, just pull the rope and go, fires every time and the power transition is super smooth. It's was tough making a decision on who to buy and install a kit from. Everybody seemed so happy with their TSS kits, or so they say. The price was right, they quoted me a lot less than what I paid for my aero kit, but I struggled with leaving it in sicamous, or going there if I had any issues. Sometimes the nice guys are the ones to stay away from, or at least that's been my experience. I did get a call from my installer 2 days after my ride to make sure I was happy with it, before he cashed my cheque!

Than again, maybe your a "one of" that's hav these issues and everybody else's run great!

sorry to hear your having problems doohead. i had some issues when mine was new. hav posted them here. since last feb at 800km mine has been turn key. just gas/oil and ride. hav 3000km on it now. if you were over reving, wouldnt you want to add clutch weight? im running 23 grams although last coupl weekends was up to clicker 4 so should really drop some with the warmer weather and heavy rotten snow. been running 20percent fuel duty and pulls at 7psi. hope you get it figured

thanks guys. Still having trouble. had to replace and EGT sensor, and ran great for 2 days, and now throwing engine light every pull. On the weekend I kept lowering my Fuel to Air down, and now at 120 on controller. Sled still back fires when I let off the throttle on a pull. Runs great before the check engine light comes on. Everything is godd for fluids etc. Talked to a bunch of guys with ideas. Not really sure what to do or who to trust anymore.

FWIW, my understanding is you will experience a backfire when the AFR is lean for the RPM when the backfire occurs. I don't understand the premise behind it, as like you, I thought turning down the fuel and leaning out the tune would fix the issue. However, I was instructed not to ("absolutely, do not turn down the fuel!"). I was instructed to increase the fuel through the area where I was experiencing a backfire; which for me was around 5500RPM at first. Further, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the RAVE valves are somewhat finicky to tune for. At low RPM they are closed to build case pressure, then at approximately 5500RPM they open 100%, then begin to close again at about 7000RPM.

So, what I've experienced with my Instaboost is the following:
CEL 1: RAVE position not attained - Jordan at Motortech sorted me out (kinked RAVE vacuum line)
Backfire @ 5500RPM: Instructed to add fuel at 5500RPM - reduced the backfiring, but not completely. Obtained updated fuel map from TSS and verified it against my then current tune. The entire RPM range was low on fuel - some by as much as 10 points. Updated the full RPM range to the new TSS tune.
Ran great for 2 rides - then I decided to turn up the boost... Not smart. Too much boost as per my post in the AFR thread. Backed off the boost. Runs great.

My Main Fuel is set at 130.

PM me your cell number and I'll text you a picture of their new tune. You may want to update yours, if it's not what I have. (I'm running the Instaboost w/H20-Air Intercooler).

Yes lean or rich can back fire

Lean is easyer to back fire also compared to rich backfire

I did a little reading to edgumacate myself on the new ski doo ECM, sensors, fueling system and how they all talk to each other. To sum up, basically, if the air/fuel going in, coming out, timing, RPM, engine temp. is off or it sees something it don't like, she'll do anything it can to prevent major component failure! They do more talking in 1 RPM than my wife could do at a horse and hockey convention in a hour! In other words, good luck on getting it sorted, specially if the guys that put it together can't! That's rough, for you and especially the other guys that ride with you and get to join you on your travels to a good running sled!

That's a very constructive and helpful reply. Could you please quantify your "edgumacation" with some facts to substantiate your findings and how those facts and findings may affect Doohead and I's decision making with regards to improving performance on our TSS turbo's? Motor ECU's have been doing thousands of calculations per second based on MAF/MAP (in/out), RPM, Boost, EGR, etc, etc, for ~2 decades in the auto industry, maybe more? (after all, the Boostit XIC controller our sleds use, has origins dating back to the 80's). It should come as no surprise that the ECU/ECM in the Skidoo is much more sophisticated and complicated than most of us "backyardigans" will ever understand.

Last I chatted with Doohead, the new fuel map that I sent him via text, seemed to clean things up for him, and his sled is running much better now. This is what I would describe as, "doing something helpful, to support the community", rather than slinging some hearsay around about how one has "edgumacated" oneself (unsubstantiated), and then implies that the problem is impossible to resolve, but Aerocharger has it figured out....

Thanks, I appreciate you listing all that sensory stuff, woulda taken me for ever to thumb all that on my iPhone! Hence the " to sum up" comment. You are correct, my comment was not helpful. Having said that, Here is the real question one should be asking, why after spending all that money on a product and getting it installed by the product developer, would one need to go els where to get it to work properly? Oh, you seem knowledgeable, so not sure if that bit about Aerocharger was a question or comment.

I wouldn't blame a broken rod on aero, that's just bad luck.

2nd that, seems to me, there is a little known connecting rod failure going with some of those engines. Stock sleds having same issue, even herd a rumour some people with turbos got it pushed through on warranty.

Each to their own, I'll stick to the heavier 4 stroke till they start lasting longer, hope they get it figured cause they are a fun sled when they work.
