Pilo Do you have a aftermarket car starter/ alarm system installed?. I had the same problem on a 04 dodge after I had one installed, tried a new battery new altenator still the same, batt almost dead after 3-4 days of sitting.
It's possible that the new battery is faulty, is it the same CCA rating?

It was the brand new battery.....wouldn't take a charge.

Thanks for the info though

Had a break controller installed but it was just a plug and play....maybe a draw from that....I have completely disconnected the battery and the truck kept running (did this because my mechanic told me too) truck didn't miss a beat.

If it were a draw the new battery would have re-charged at least a bit while running.....where today after driving 20 mins on the highway it bearly cranked over.....if in 3 days its dead again I will take it back to where I had the controller installed and have them check everything.

The tech at crappy tire said regardless of a draw on the battery the brand new battery should not have been completely toasted after 3 days.

I will update if it dies again

I've never taken a battery cable off while the truck was running, too much of a risk if shorting something on these electronically controlled engines, same idea of boosting a dead batt.
I'm puzzled as to why the truck stayed running with a cable disconnected, Should be a open circut, voltage drops below 7v and ECM shuts down.
I've been in a truck that quit immeadiately when the cable fell off the batt. Unless toyota wires the charging system different.

If your alternator is working properly your engine should run NP with the bat. Disconnected.

I have asked a few people about disconnecting while truck is running, and have been told the risk of your battery giving enough of a jolt to screw your electronics is slim to none....boosting how ever depending on the boost vehicle and being done improperly can do damage.

Direct quote from a mechanic I trust.

"if you battery doesn't have the juice to start your truck it doesn't have the juice to fry anything that it is connected to on a regular basis at full strength......possible maybe but extremely unlikely, these new vehicles are built with safeguards To prevent such things....of course a dealership, or manual will tell you otherwise to cover their a$$"

I also forgot to mention in my last post when the cable fell off it created a arc strong enough to blow a Maxi fuse, couldn't get the truck going until the fuse was replaced.
I've never tried pulling a cable while the engine was running, don't really want to try it either, this is the first time I heard of it being done was today, I always used a mulitmeter troubleshooting a charging system.
A tow truck gave me a boost once and boosting fried my car starter and stereo, so I've been cautious ever since.

always pull the ground cable is what they should of said, that way unless there is a major draw you will get no spark, positive will light up like a welder if you drop it or bump the chassis anywhere.

and that is why when ever you are giving or getting a boost ALWAYS make sure the live vehicle(the one giving the boost) is turned off can't fry anything when the live vehicle's battery has no extra charge(12.6V) some tow trucks have a very heavy duty alternator and can produce 14.5-15.5 volts that kind of "jolt" to a dead battery is almost always gonna fry chit. as well the possibility of someones voltage regulator being on the fritz and allowing more voltage to flow is also a possibility
