When I went camping in BC over the summer and there was a fuel shortage, I took 500l with me. Had to get all the vehicles there and back without worry. We had a mini-van, motorhome, and 2 quads, plus a diesel truck. So just borrow a slip tank from work fill it up and volla 500l for two weeks. Everytime we went somewhere we filled up but were being limited to 25-50l. So we used it all, but don't think there is any law.:d:d

must have been a gas shortage in the booooooonies there was no shortage here , unless i had one too many bottles of courages and missed it , there is no limit to jerry cans as long as they are red and only have gas in them , diesel has to be in yellow . you can carry as many jerry cans as you want on to the bc ferries as long as they are full of water . from past experiance I KNOWWWWWWWWW this quite well , hope this helps

20l maximum on any ferry, in an enclosed proper csa approved fuel storage container................. Includes jerry cans attached to sleds. Just thought you might want to know. Be careful going on the ferries with loaded fuel containers! We had approx 200l on one trip across a ferry, and wasn't until we were heading back after some serious sleddin' that we read the large notice board on regulations by the ferry docks, so be careful all.............. Just sayin'

You are correct I have lived on the Island for 15 years , but at times they even have an issue with that extra 20 litres . They even made me fill my diesel cans full of water to get back home from a hunting trip go figure .
