never been before
were flying in direct and staying at a 5 star all inclusive resort

wifey is a bit paranoid with the hype the media is putting on the recent murders on those 2 BC natives
how safe is it to travel to Mexico these days??

I went to Cancun for the first time last May for my cousin's wedding and it was a blast! You can find trouble anywhere you go if look for it. Its not like you're going to Tijuana to find some coke and women... If you're really concerned, stay on the resort, leave the local girls alone and mind your own business. I went to Playa Del Carmen and it was fine. Like Matt said, treat the people with respect and you'll find they're very friendly and accommodating.

We have stayed in Bucerias a few times. Had a great time. Rented an apartment for a month, walked uptown to eat, buy groceries daily. I would rather do that then ever go back to a resort. Have fun!

Was in Cancun 3 years ago it was a blast. Didn't feel unsafe, different then here but not unsafe. I did find it odd though you see trucks driving around with machine guns in the back on the strip at night. But then again, never seen a SINGLE fight at ANY bar, a lot more then you can say for bars here. Also found it weird how cab drivers during the day ask if you want a ride, and at night ask if you want to buy drugs. Plus hookers on the streets, not afraid to let it be known what they do.....A lot of stuff you will see will make you go WTF.

The one thing I though was awesome was bars were so much funner then here. Meet a lot more people, and no problems whatsoever in then.

I think the biggest difference with safety is that here you know where is safe and where isn't, and mexico you have no idea.

As good as it was, I likely wouldn't go back, though I don't regret going. Only reason for me to want to go there was for a good party, and see a few things, and past wanting to just do that.

I go to playa del carmen 2/3 times a yr and love it, trip with family we stay at resort and then 1/2 times no kids and stay right in town at cielo hotel on the strip, I do alot of scuba diving and party with locals alot cheaper where they go, lol. If you want to scuba dive check out Geofish on 10th they are from denver and own a dive shop there. Tell them Darren sent you, they know me very well. I just finished doing a shark dive last winter with them, IMG_0005.jpg Don't go swimming, just kidding, enjoy your trip.
