There is a trapper show on Wild TV. Seems pretty good. Basically just a couple that are registered trappers and bring a camera long showing things. Seems like good info. Interesting to a city person like myself atleast.

They show trapping on the reality shows on Nat Geo and the like, but it's done for the drama and I don't think a person could learn much.

Do you need a trap line to trap? Up where our cabin is some people just set traps up along lease roads. Is that legal. I'm thinking of getting my license

I always went with the father inlaw. He was a licensed trapper.

His cabin had an identification trapper licence posted. And active trap line signage.

You need a licence and can trap private property with permission from land owner.
Along lease roads is a no no if a active trap line is registered in that area.

...as of Jan1/15 you can no longer challenge to test to obtain your license. You must sign up for a week long course and practical day available in different locations, but Westlock sems to be the main place. Contact ATA I'm sure they will point people in the right direction for their area.

Does a trap line have to be posted?

You can do it in Debolt Ab. Also at Gordy Klassen's place. Three day course.
He is the pres. for ATA
