Trailer tire replacement

Have to replace my fifth wheel trailer tires this year,Damn side wall beads are cracked. Have been doing some reading on tires and have read that some people are running truck tires on there trailers. Has any one done this. Can buy some pretty cheap take offs. 235/85/16 tires.
Any insight that would be great.

might be wrong but all tires i have bought for my trailers over the years where 10 ply (trailer tires) i got my last 4 for 120$ each but as long as the load rating is good for what your hualing .but not shure if that will fly with dot

no problem running light truck tires on a trailer, just make sure your load rating is correct.

the guy that had my trailer before i got it had replaced the tires with light truck tires. when one went down and i had to find a tire on holidays, i had a helluva time trying to find light truck tires to replace it with. they were also 235's.....ended up buying all new maxxis trailer tires

I figure, trailer tires on the trailer, truck tires on the truck? Makes sense to me. Cost isn't much different, and you are using the tire as it was designed. My 2C.

never,never,never!!! unless your trailer is ultra light it will pull like a bag of smashed azzholes. the tail will wag the dog! call trailers unlimited in edmonton, they have new tires on rims for aprox $120 each.

Thanks for the feed back,it was tire shop in edmonton that i have dealt with for years trying to talk me into truck tires on my trailer, i always thought trailer tires were built more rigid to track straight? They where telling me to use E or G rated tire.

10 ply truck tires arn't realy meant for trailer [ cause tandam trailers scrub the rears ]... they also make a 14 ply lt235-85-16 [ f ] trailer tire [ which is over kill ] but u will never get a flat from a rock or nail...... they are like 180 ish and most bigger 30 footers are realy close to the trailer tire capacity [ 10 ply ]

Might be wrong but i thought if you plan on going to BC with the trailer they require trailer tires on trailers by law kinda like their winter tire deal. Shop around i got some last year through work hear 10ply were like $105.

I went there today and picked up 2 rims and tires for my enclosed Trailer !!!
Best deal around....... when I went to my local trailer shop the other day , they wanted about 200 dollars per rim THEN I needed to buy tires on top of that !!!! So when I found this thread the other day ............. AWESOME !!!

Im a manager at an OK Tire and do this all the time with used tires, and with people just looking to change one tire, one thing if you are going to put truck tires on try and go with a highway terrian tire or steer tire, cause trailers tend to scrub the shoulders with the friction of turning, one thing a trailer tire is designed for.

Im a manager at an OK Tire and do this all the time with used tires, and with people just looking to change one tire, one thing if you are going to put truck tires on try and go with a highway terrian tire or steer tire, cause trailers tend to scrub the shoulders with the friction of turning, one thing a trailer tire is designed for.

I put no name tires and aluminum rims on my smaller trailers, but the 5th wheel only gets Good Years (Marathon i think). I have tried cheap tires, but in the course of the year, they aren't that cheap. The Goodyears seem to hold the weight of a big trailer a whole lot better than the no names. Just my 2 cents, but for me, it's cheaper in the long run.

geez I have been calling around today for trailer tires I'm having a tough time finding a name brand tire these are all the brands I can find Road riders, Rakla, Max milers like WTF every chits on off shore tires but if thats all you can get....

looking for (4) 205 75R 15 and I am positive mine are load range D (I will check tonight) so If anyone has a price or knows of a place post or PM me
