I heard that alberta is going to make it illegal to tow like this in the near furure anyways..

and they should ........ IMO.... most peeps could"nt drive a sharp stick up a dead dog azz.... let alone pull 2 trailers :d

This is discussed EVERY SPRING.... the DOT has NO PLANS in the works nor have they even discussed restricting a tandem off a 5th wheel, so long as the overall legnth & weight is within maufacturers specifications......

The potential is there I guess but I don't recall hearing any horror stories from the past couple years regarding tandem set-ups being deemed responsible for a fatality collision....

Now additional licencing I a gree with....

So what do you tell them when they ask what the name of the shop was? Not saying anything would happen but ina worst case scenario something happens and someone gets injured, and you cant prove anything then you would be liable and i dont know that your insurance would cover you.. But also on the same token in alberta from i understand pretty much anyone can go out and build a trailer to haul stuff on and it's all good as long as it'sregistered as a home built. I dont know if they even get inspected let alone asked about any welding tickets or such.

Parkland Welding.....official documents get shredded every 7 years so 6 more years and im in the clear:d. Trust me half the trailer will rip off before the hitch. I would be more nervous with the guy that has 4 bikes u-bolted onto the factory flimsy bumper than my hitch. Saw this last summer travelling to BC, they were bouncing so bad the tire would periodically rub the pavement.

it's your truck ,boat , an boobies , float it anywhere you want ..... im just thinking with no reciet and no welding ticket to confirm , you might just as well float all 3 up ch!t creek :d would'nt want an amatuer welding on your jet boat , so why your hitch

I can't pull my ship behind the trailer, the wheeler is 34' long so i'm limited to what i can pull anyway. The most i pull is 2 quads on a little 2 place trailer.

Got it booked in at ABC muffler and hitch... going to be one of their more expensive jobs b/c the water tank is way at the back and sits of course between the frame rails and right in the way... hence custom job equals an extra 200 bucks over their standard install... can't catch a break this year but that's it... at least I know it's done right by a shop that does these every day.

I couldn't find the "WTF" thread but figured this was a pretty good place to post this with all the talk about "certified welders" and all. Do you think this guy has even a clue about the regulations on towing. That welding rig weighs no less than 10,000 lbs. No way there is working brakes on the rig that can be applied from the Ford that is towing this "Accident, Waiting To Happen". I followed him for a ways and that thing was tough to keep straight going down the road. He was heading west down hwy 55 between Lac La Biche and Grassland. I didn't think you can pull tandem trailers on a 2 lane hwy. SCARY.

so is the guy pulling his welding truck behind his fifth wheel. you're quick to lump yourself into that group apparently. did they include structural engineering with your welding ticket? exactly how much weight are they designed for?

why because he is do a short cut to save him money just like everyone else that is pulling something behind there fith wheel or trailer. and there isn't any down ward force pulling the truck for the weight is carried by it's own wheels unlike a trailer where there is tongue weight on the frame, that is what will bend your frame.. yup it does give a structural ticket for welding then if you go alittle further you become can get piping ticket .there is quite a few different ones you can get. but the most basic one is the structual ticket. as for exact numbers i would need to know there materail they use and well they are different you want exact number phone the manufacture they will tell you ...

what group am i in ... i dont pull nothing behind my fith wheel and never will

the welding truck behind the 5th wheel is wayyyyyyyyy to much... enough said...

so is the welding truck hooked up with electric over hydrulic brakes???

cause anything over 2000lbs behind the 5th wheel has to have brakes.....
