Are you looking for a device that will track a trailer or a sled, etc. if it is stolen?
Or are you looking at something to lay down a hiking, sledding track on a map?

Most satellite communication devices require a subscription and some require a power supply. Best money spent though, its around $120 per year which is relatively cheap assurance. Also insure the asset if your worried about it as vehicle policy's do not cover trailer only liability. The apple things work off pinging your cell phone and other I phones in the area. Not sure about the Milwaukie things. Certified Radio has systems that tie into GPS.

I've used Spot trace for years. Annual renewal fee has gone up but I have complained about it and got a deal sometimes.
