Re: Track cutting 101 The FIX

Don't suppose you thought of going to sled parlor, wherever, and pick up an old track to practice on? May not be a 3" camo, but would probably show possible problems.

I do have a question, did you set off the smoke detector?

Re: Track cutting 101 The FIX

so what is the extra cost from curtis to have track cut? I think a good set up jig in the water cutter and it would be perfect.......but might be the same cost as curtis.....and since he does lots he is set up for it........I dont know Curtis but looking at the pics, it looks like he does good work! if you have 10 to do it might be cheaper to do yourself but if you have one to do.......Curtis looks like the man for the job! oh and did I say using the water cutter would be alot better for the enviroment! lol no smoke! well I'm off to the water cutter to get some parts cut for my custom snow blower mods......Im going to ask him about cutting tracks!

hey dave......it just hit me......your livin up to your name "SMOKIN" Dave! lol

Smokin`Dave, not sure if you did this or not but another trick that helps is to turn the track in side out. so that the lugs are on the inside of the track.
This is where your buddies help comes in the most useful as it is not fawkin` easy to do. and this is when most of the beer is consumed.
With the track inside out it is easier to use the fence on the table saw.

Re: Track cutting 101 The FIX

you mean you didn't turn it inside out?

Fawkwin Mike Homes couldn't make that cut straight going over the lugs

Re: Track cutting 101 The FIX

Just cut mine down we used two 2x4's to level the skill saw and a small 1/4" shim under the track and cut about a 2 foot section at a time using the inside nubs as a guides. We left the track the normal way and just propped the track up with small 2x4's to keep it out of the way. The blade i used had 24 teeth and it was about $13 at Rona and I only used one. Then used some lube and big utility knife from good old Rona to cut the lug portion. Then used a grinder to give it the final touches. L:cool::cool:K's straighter then factory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Track cutting 101 The FIX

flip the track inside out, hammer a 2x4 or 2x6 into it to stretch it out straight and tight. then run it through a band saw if you wanna do it yourself and have access to a band saw.

Re: Track cutting 101 The FIX

A skil saw would be about the worst tool you could use....way too awkward. Flip it inside out, and use a jig saw with a good Bosch blade. Keep running the blade into a wax candle (works awesome for lubrication when cutting rubber, aluminum, etc), and have at er.
