TRA clutch bushing

S has anyone replaced the bushing that is in the sliding sheeve? Anyone have a simple way of getting the new one back in?

I heated up the sheave with a heat gun and pressed the bushing in with a socket on a press. You might be able to rig it up in a vice if you don't have a press.

Which bushing do you use, the plastic one that comes in the kit? Or the metal type one that comes in the race primary.

I picked out the clip and old one, then stuck the sheave in the oven, bushing in the freezer. It just fell on for me.

I take the clutch apart and have them just change the bushing. Agree with Sideways.

Thing is the local shop in cow town sends it out. Last one I had done was not centered in the sheeve, it didn't fail but it sure made a mess. The dealer failed to recognized there screw up. So that's why I'd rather do it myself. Got it in anyway with a little pressure.

I push it in with the old bushing when in a rush. But placing the sheave in the oven at 300 f for half hr and bushing in freezer for the same amount of time will make it much easier for you. Will slip right in. I find the hardest part is getting that freaking locking ring out.

Should you need to do it again and don't want to risk breaking it, Bowridge does it. Never had an issue with them. I have done my own and I have also broken them as well.

I have no idea why a Doo dealer in a major city would send out a simple job. Likely why I don't do business with them.

I usually break the worn bushing out ( pry inward with screwdriver and it falls out) to make getting the circlip out easier. I made a bushing installer that fits snug to the bushing to install. I use a little loctite green bushing retainer and new circlip. The hardest part is getting a corroded circlip out. If the circlip area is hammered out or broken, then the sheave should be replaced.

Just buy the tool from doo or etc, makes it easy. Don't forget the green loctite.
