Hey guys I'm looking a getting into a new toy hauler in the spring. Leaning towards Raptor but just wondering what you guys know or have heard about various models. Any info would be greatly appreciated due to the amount of cash these thing cost
All of them lol. Those things are really hit and miss. Lots of research. Heard a lot of great things about Grand Design Momentum series though. Worth checking out. Good luck
Not sure what exactly you’re looking for, but arctic fox makes good stuff (they call them desert fox). I looked at a bumper pull when I was trailer shopping and it was very good quality, but they tend to be heavier than other makes.
Had, and just sold, a 2015 Raptor. Nice trailer. Build quality wasn't super, but definitly better then most.
Fridge was a POS, but the dealer was awsome. (Cactus RV in Medicine Hat).
Good advice in buying used I guess, just know what your getting.
I'm not personally familiar with Raptor. We've had our toy hauler for 4 years, we average 65-70 nights a year (peak was 79) and are on our 2nd set of tires on it so likely have 50,000km on the trailer.. Here's what i found.
We have a Vengeance 43' fifth wheel with a 12' garage.. Its definitely not the fanciest unit compared to a Voltage, Fuzion, XLR or some of the higher end units but its super simple and like mentioned above, the components are all the same (LCI - Lippert Components) - they seem to own the RV market for parts..
Our fuse panel is lights and breakers, all the switches are that - switches that i can pull and access to troubleshoot.. Level system has cranks for backup, slides have cranks, inverter and an Onan.. The intertior is fairly simple which is good, all that heavy awkward moulding hanging just falls off anyway and causes problems.
The Onan was totally worth the money, we've slept comfortably everywhere watching TV with the A/C on loving life..
12' garage is a minimum, i haul the RZR4 900, 450 dirt bike, 50 dirt bike, 2 kids 2 adult bikes and 2 dogs in the garage..
We only have 1 air conditioner and it keeps up no problem
We thought the rear patio was going to be super cool - we are on the move a lot so with loading and unloading, kids sleeping in the back we found the rails and screens to be a PITA, I took them all off and the whole setup is out in the shed..
If we are running off 12V and just keeping the fridge going we can last a long time on batteries.. Start powering screens and electronics your consumption goes up so have to add batteries and panels..
Full size fridge is a bonus
Blinds that are roller and not the 2 rope pull thing that tilts the bars.
Only thing i was i had was Auto Level and 6 jacks but we bought just b4 that was cool..
I did a lot of research a couple years ago before buying our brand new toy hauler and narrowed it down to grand design momentum m348 and keystone raptor both really good units but after comparing the two we ended up with the momentum with 12’ 6” garage! We just felt the built quality was better on the grand design! Also really like the arctic fox line but they didn’t have the floor plan or garage we wanted but they did seem to be built really tough !
If u can go with the 6 point auto leveling do it because it’s the greatest thing to have on these trailers
i have had the whole one side of trailer off ground to level it and it handles it no problem the jacks are rated for I think 15 000 pounds each! And this is a 40 foot fifth wheel weighing 13 600 dry! Just makes life so much easier when setting up !
I dont know anything about campers, but you should get a "Vengeance"... Maybe you'll get featured on Brett Turcotte's instagram. Anal Vengeance is hilarious. Even "Predator"... Haha Anal Predator, i just took a trip to Koocanusa, and everyone in the truck was excited to see campers to read the names on them... Now campers are forever ruined for me, i cant see them without putting it in front.
I have a 2009 Raptor 3812TS i bought new in 2008. Tri axle 5th wheel. The unit has been great! No issues with it other than general maintenance. Lots of room for a commander and extra bits and pieces. The best thing is there is enough room for the whole family(3 kids) when the weather is inclement and no one is fighting!!
