You are showing great results for the last 50km......What does your read out say if you changed it to the last 650Km's?

My 2015 6.2L GMC may show those low numbers for the 50Km readout but never that low for the longer 650KM.....maybe its me...

And by the way, I agree with your decision to drive a 1/2 ton gas over a heavier 3/4 ton and diesel....I weighed the costs and for the few times a year that I am pulling something, the 1/2 ton gas works for me too

I'm running the 5.8L.
I went to Kelowna for Christmas and it averaged 11.8 over the 7.5 hour drive (Just about a full tank of gas). If I wasn't doing 120 on the Alberta side I'm sure it would have done better. But then again its averaged over all so who knows. Slowing down in BC and free riding all the down hills in 4 cylinder mode really saves the gas. Alberta you do the same RPM for hours. No possible way to save on fuel economy other than slowing the speed down.
In town it will average as bad as 15l/100. It will drink it if you are heavy on the skinny pedal as all trucks will. Pretty tough to get good economy in the city.

So does the 6.2 now have the 4/6 mode? it didn't in 2010 when I had the 3/4 ton.

I have had my ram 6.4L 1 ton for about 16 months now and have 40,000 kms on it. The engine has great power. Gas mileage sucks. My commute is same as yours. Truck is a crew cab and long box. The stereo is the same as my last truck which has the 9 speakers, large touch screen with back up camera. We have had and rented a lot of vehicles. Including cadillac. The top line stereo in the ram kicks the crap out of anything else out there for ease of use and sound. Remote start on them doesn't have the best range but still work well. The one ton ride for a daily driver is pretty stiff. Next one will probably be the same truck but in a 2500 with the coils and factory bags. I don't miss my diesel.

Nice! I'd love to hear that system. The Bose system in this truck is IMO the best GMC has come out with. It's the best I've had in any of the ones i've owned anyways. I'm thinking it has a sub in there somewhere but can't find it.

The auto start in the GMs and Chevys is pretty hard to beat when you can start the vehicle from anywhere on earth. Onstar app ;-)

I have never owned a diesel. A couple of the GM 6.0's and they are great motors. Drink the gas but no warranty issues or anything after warranty. They were geared at 410 and had oodles of torque.

In 2013 when GM decided not to put there new trucks out until later in the year, that was it for me. I bought a Ford F350 with the 6.2l gas. Whether a 250 or 350 I didn't really know but I am not sorry I bought the F350. Maybe would have preferred different gearing but I had no choice as this was the only truck of its kind in western Canada. We pull a 25' all season trailer and with the manual shifting it is good to pull but it does guzzle the gas. 28/100km out to Vancouver Island and back and over all the big passes, etc.. For everyday highway driving I'm in around 15/100km and the average on the truck is 18.5 with just under 70,000 km on it. Oil change and gas and that is all in 2 and a half years. It has the 8' long box and is a Lariat finish. I would like a new one with the heated steering wheel but oh well......

When I bought it I sold the box, tailgate, and rear bumper to a body shop and put on the flat deck. I have rails for it and we haul our firewood once a year. Otherwise for most of the year there are sleds on the back and it works great for our purposes. In the winter, the gas is at 19-20/100km with the two sleds on. There is so much one can do to personalize and pimp them up these days. And I love the LineX covering the aluminum deck. So much less maintenance!

I have a 2015 Dodge 3/4T Diesel that was a really tough choice. I do not tow as much as I used to so was really looking at a gas truck.
Boat and fifth wheel weigh about 12,500# but only tow both about twice a summer.
Bought an inclosed that with 4 sleds will weigh about 6300# but only use about the times a year.

This truck is so quiet and way nicer to ride in than my 03cummins but burns way more fuel - 4 to 5l/100km.

I kept my last truck 12 years - for the longevity I got another diesel - not so much for the towing needs.
Last cummins was bullit proof so I got another one.

In this economy I say don't over buy your truck.
Like sleds difference is not that much between brand quality IMHO.

So far the only thing I am not as happy as I would like to be is with the tire performance in the snow. Now that I have committed to 1/2 tones I really should go out and set myself up with a set of winters on winter rims....

If I could make a suggestion on your winter wheels and tires......

Try and get yourself a set of these.

Honestly...... I am a DIE HARD GM guy, but I cannot bring myself to buy a new one until they get rid of those butt fawkin ugly square wheel wells. Why is GM going back in time with the shape of their trucks? Very sad.

Yes, the 6.2 now has the v4/v8 mode.....
you can go into the setup on you dash and change the mileage readout to show last 50/last 100 or last 650

I got a new ram 2500 power wagon 6.4 Hemi has factory 410 gears , locking differentials , sway bar disconnect , factory 12000 pound winch , full skid plates , factory 33 inch tires. its a beast off-road can just crawl threw most anything with little effort. I have hauled 28ft enclosed and average mpg is 22-24 litre per 100km averageing 16-18 litre empty. The big Hemi is the most powerful gasser in a heavy duty ever. It has 50hp and 50 lbs torque more than gm heavy duty . It lays rubber and burns donuts to I love it

Thy finally put 4:10's in those? When they came out I thought they were somewhat appealing aside from the 4:56 they put in them.

With 8 speed trans now I'm sure that has changed the final drive they are able to use. Lower first and still over driven.

I don't think you can get the 8 speed in the big trucks yet. Only the 1/2t with the 5.7

I had an '11 f350 diesel. Put a 4" lift, with 37" tires on it. Used it mostly as a 'car', but towed with it more then once. Heaviest load was 4255 John Deere FWA with a loader on a tridem gooseneck. Averaged 35l/100kms, with the cruise on @120km/hr. Aside from filling fuel more often, I didn't really notice it back there.

Sold it at 100,000km with nearly no major issue.

Currently have a '15 f350 dually. Leveling kit, with 35" tires. Pull a 42' toy hauler that ways around 16,500 lbs. Again, you don't really notice it's back there.

I've had better luck with Ford warranty then GM warranty- but I'll chalk that up to dealer support then the brand.

Modern trucks and modern lift kits, with 10 ply tires are just as capable as without... within reason of course. I really wished all three would build a decent BB gas engine. The 6.4 hemi sounds impressive, but until dodge unlocks the front end in 2wd I won't be buying one.

Go with the one that makes you happy to look at, and costs you the least up front.

I'll add a couple of things. I drive an 09 f350 diesel . Biggest reason i went 350 over 250 was about half the price insurance wise at the time due to theft, not sure if that is still the case.
I put on 45km a year mostly hiway at 100km a shot with some in town driving as well as it is my daily driver.
I am empty alot but in the winter it gets 20 or more trips west from canmore with two sleds on it.
My life time average on this truck is around 14L/100.
Dpf removed and a light tune.

My biggest advice is great drive and test drive some more. If you are doing many short trips get a gas truck. With all of the pollution control equipment these trucks need to get up to temperature and stay there for a while. I plan on driving this one into the ground and so far i love it.

Having owned numerous 4x4 trucks from 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton short boxes with numerous 1 ton duallies et al, I would strongly suggest whatever brand you get just buy a one ton 8' box SRW, the difference in ride between 3/4 and one ton is negligible and for GM the GVW 11400lb and 26000 ish GCVWR, which, by the way, is all you can haul with a class 5 license.
You cannot replace the room, the ride and the ease to know you can haul pretty much any thing you want, granted parking is a little snotty and backing in becomes a friend in most situations.

Right now today with the difference in cost of gas vs diesel at the pump, it nearly offsets the difference in fuel mileage, not to mention the upfront $12000 difference, gas my be cheaper but the diesel is better towing for sure and slightly higher GVW's

2016 Toyota Tundra Crew max 5.7litre 381 hp plenty of power and resale is super high versus any other in its class period. price 38-52k depending on trim level. If you want pricing message me I work at Toyota :) you can compare and buy local.

Just thought I would update. I ended up pulling the trigger and ordering a 2016 cummins 2500. No white sunglasses, but I think she is going to be a beautiful rig (still adding goodies) Should see it in 6-10 weeks. Fingers crossed!
