Niger seed worked great for Siskins in the Elk Valley. Other birds kind of stayed away from that feeder. Yes, the sunflowers attract a lot of undesirables. Before my neighbours down there got uppity, I used to shoot the squirrels as they were a nuisance around the house.

not sure why the neighbours would mind? you had the feeder hanging next to their kitchen window so they could see the squirrels?

not all the birds coming to a feeder are liked. magpies are the worst?

I wonder why, it wouldn't be because of the loud screams at night and the incessant shotgun blasts after dark? or the wacky cult like dancing in the fall? haha. that would scare the crap out of anyone,
