Tonneau Covers

Hey! I'm looking for a tonneau cover for my truck and need some advice. What do you think is better Velcro top or Roll-top.
What do you have, and what do you like and dislike about it. Thanks.

I had a cheap Velcro and vinyl one from Can Tire than had a Bakflip trifold on the next truck. The Bakflip was junk, faded really bad and rubber seals sucked. Vinyl velcro looked good but it was so cheap it had from supports so it flapped in the wind. If I was to get another one(which I never will) it would be a roll and lock.

Just get a sled deck and a tailgate lock if there isnt a factory one.

Both velcro and roll up's kinda suck in the winter time. I had wifes hemi we had the velcro one but it was a POS, the velcro didnt hold very well, faded bad and not to mention she hated it lol. So i went and bought a "undercover" hard box cover its a very light (50+ lbs) composite design that one person (can) remove.

Depending on what truck you have they can be found on kijiji for the price of a new roll up style cover.

I had the Truxedo soft roll-up cover on my F-150. I liked it for the fact that if I haul something that sticks out above the box, like a quad, the cover rolls up easily and out of the way. You would have to remove your hard tonneau cover to haul a quad/sled etc. Also, the soft rolling cover takes up about 4" of space at the front of the box once rolled up, which is good on a extra short box F-150 like mine. The down side is that they tend to expand and contract with seasons, but adjustment is super easy to compensate for temperature. The hard tonneau cover keeps out the water better than the soft roll-up cover (although I would say mine was about 95% sealed when it comes to rain). If you have a painted hard cover, they look way better than a roll up one too.

I can't comment on the backflip or anything like the hard folding panels since I have never used them.

I have since put a canopy on my truck, but that in itself has its pro's and con's.

I too have a Truxedo which I paid about $600 for it and love it! It is my second one as I had one on my previous truck as well. The first one I had for about 7 years and the current one for 3 with zero problems. No leaks, velcro has never let me down either. A friend of mine had the hard roll top and got rid of it and bought the soft one like I have. They are even forgiving if the load height is slightly higher than the box rails but a roll type will not allow you do do that.

I have the Truxedo as well. I bought it used and love it. I like how easy the Truxedo is to take out as well so come winter it is no more than an extra 3min to put my deck in. I steered clear of the hard roll-ups because of the box room they use and the hard flip type I wasn't sold on be cause of how they sit when flipped up (can't see the fifth wheel very well when hooking up.

It really depends on what you use your truck for. For me the truxedo is the right match.

I have a Backflip on my truck and I love mine. I have not had any issues with it yet. I bought mine from recommendations from friends and family that have them and they have had no issues.
I do know a couple of people with the roll and locks and they are not very fond of them in the winter, they have found them to ice up in the winter

I've had my Truxedo roll up for three years now and it's never givin any problems at all. The velcro is as good today as it was new , the bars that support it keep it from sagging with snow in the winter. I keep it as tight as possible all year and it still looks great. Mine goes through the brush type car wash no problem and those brushes give it a beating in both directions. Will get another for my next truck if the box is a different length . The Truxedo is a little more expensive than some but the quality is there. Good luck with your purchase.

I like my bakflip so far, haven't been through a winter with it yet though. Many of the accessory places told me they sold two bakflip to anything else they sold. Not sure if they were trying to snow me or what. Love the cover so far, the security of a hard tonneau with the functionality of a soft cover. Hauled a few loads with it up all the way on the window, didn't move or rattle or anything.

I have a Retrax roll up. It works great and I've never had any problem opening it in the winter. The pain is the lost space in the front for the canister though.

I use a truxedo on the work truck. All seasons and up some shite roads. We have had to replace one because it was cut open when someone broke into our yard. Like it muchly

I had the Truxedo on my other truck and it was great (except for the azz who let their cigarette burn a small hole in it.) I now have the Bakflip on my truck and also love it. I wanted a hard top so I could lock the tailgate. I had no issues with the Bakflip in the winter last year.

I have the Undercover topper. It's light, solid, easy to swap out and provides security. It seals really well. It's a pain when you wan't to load up the quad but it only takes a minute to pop off. I like mine so far and it looks pretty good..

Got 2 (Ford) hard folding back flips.... these are the only ones I have had & like them so far. I can walk on top of them & like the look.

my vote for truxedo as well, 3 years now, hasn't faded from what i can tell, velcro still holding strong. basically great for keeping things out of the elements, but if your looking security you may want a roll top.
