You people do realize that you're not supposed to go over 80 in 4x4 right? in town, sure go nuts leave it on, i do. On the highway.....well have fun replacing transfer cases

Lol every winter the only time I take my truck out of 4x4 is to squeeze into a parking stall, and I do a lot of highway driving and have never had a issue with transfer cases?

In my head
My father is just over 70. Always driven two wheel drive pikcups, 1/2 tons. Never had a winter accident, never hit the ditch. His two rules of thumb for winter driving....slow down and use good tires.

My truck manual states to shift into 4 wheel below 80km/Hr , but I can drive in 4 wheel at highways speeds (not that I do in poor conditions).

Insurance institute has reported that cars with traction control, stability, all wheel drive, antilock brakes etc., are making people over confident and actually may be increasing the rate of serious accidents.

There is a reason most provinces are making it law to use winter tires in winter......they work!!! Winter accident rates have dropped significantly in provinces making this law. Monster mudders are not winter tires.

Having 4x4 is like having a condom! It greatly reduces the chance of an accident if used properly!

You forgot it takes some of the fun out of it though!!

I grew up with 2wd trucks and learned that winter tires and weight are your friends in the winter. Now i have a 4wd and still buy winter tires and put weight in the box.

On the highway i use 2wd because i like to know what the traction is like as it can change while you are driving in a short period of time. If i am towing or climbing hills or the conditions have dictated that i must drive below 80kmh already i hit the switch and treat the road like glass.

I always wondered why people with 4wd thought it was like a super power for winter driving, it only helps you go, not stop, that is where tires and weight can help.
