I've taken my wife before and after we were married.
She is not an aggressive rider. So she stayed on the trail or on someone else's tracks. She has a beacon and probes, but no Avy courses and highly doubt she'd be able to help much in case of an Avy. For these reasons we changed our Riding. More boring for us but she was able to tag along.

To bring your_____ on a sledding trip or not? Fill that blank in with...Daughter...best friend...sister...brother...mother or father. I don't understand what the significance of "girlfriend" is. Everyone that rides the mountains was at one time a "first time" Mt rider. Everyone will experience the same issues when they get there for the first time. I have enjoyed every minute of my daughters mt riding trips and would love to have my wife there to experience it but she's not a rider. The short answer, in my opinion, is....Hell Yes...

I have been on three trips this winter. On all three we had a first timer. The group has to be conscious of the newbie and choose areas, routes, and order of riders in the convoy accordingly. It's definitely doable without AST1. Do have the gear, and do have one or two people designated to decide where you do and do not go.

Hi guys, I just have a question for all of ya? Would any of you bring your girlfriend on a sledding trip to the mountains if you had an extra sled but she has never sledded in the mountains before? Would it be too much of a hassle because the mountain snow is different? Or you wouldn't mind because her company would be great no matter how many times she would get stuck lol...
Loaded question, possibly sounds like your BF doesn't want to take you or is making excuses so it's just him and the boys.

If that's the case, drop him he's a piece of chit.

I take my wife to the mountains as often as I can. In fact, I have to replace a arms this week cause I took her to the mountains. But I wouldn't change it for anything. She's better looking than the guys I normally ride with and its not awkward to ask for "something something" afterwards...

So Countrygirlatheart the overwhelming majority says you should go and your boyfriend should be dang happy about that. If not I guess you should see if you could go on your own trip with some of the ladies on this site :)

Wow, I never expected all these responses! Thank you everyone, I appreciate it! I was with my bf for 5 years and the first year he went on a couple sledding trips without me and I thought nothing of it because we were freshly dating and I thought to let him go have fun and not have to worry about me. Then he stopped going for a couple years because he was fixing his sleds and maybe I held him back because I was upset that he would never invite me to go.. Then lately he went on a couple trips not inviting me so I had to ask and he would respond that he is going with guys and they are not bringing there girlfriends or there was no room or I will get stuck all the time and everyone will be annoyed. So I was upset that I never got invited and that he got to go enjoy the mountains with the sleds and talked about how fun and exciting it was but yet I never new because I never got to go so I became very interested and wanted to go experience all the fun everyone talks about but I never got the chance, so I just wanted to ask the question on the thread to see maybe see his point on nor bringing me.

Well now you know our general opinion. He should take you at least once so you can both see what it is like. If the group he goes with are high-mark chute climbing kings of the hill, maybe you are better not riding with him. I am sure if you did some checking there might be another group that would be pleased to have you join them. Good luck :)

Ha ha! If you are referring to what I think, it sure as hell would be awkward to ask for something something in my group of middle aged guys! Awkward is funny though...

if you like to ride its a experience you will never regret,we've taken numerous newbies before,we ride to there capabilities and dont over welm them with areas. if your boyfreind dosent want you to go he will probably be impatient and not respectful of what to expect of a newbie mountain rider. everytime we have taken newbies its usually a easier riding area, until they are more comfortable with the type of terrain.its usually lots of stucks but usually is lots of laughs also. in some ways taken a newbie is a nicer day for its not full of competion of who did what and who out rode each other. if you enjoy riding and have a interest in mountain riding than find someone who is willing to take a newbie out and go for it.i would be willing to bet that then your boyfriend would change his mind about taking you next time.only thing is for mountain riding get a beacon, shovel and probe,i tell newbies we take that we will lend you one of our older beacons, shovel to use, that way if you dont like it than you have not gone thru the expense of safety gear, but if you like it you need to purchase safety gear before next trip.as for ast training i would not worry about this at this time not until you have tried and then decide on if you are going to continue mountain riding. do like your boyfriend does,go riding without him then maybe he will open his eyes and see how stupid hes being.lots of times you can post on here where and when, what you ride, experience etc and see if anybody is willing to let you tag along

That sounds awesome! Thanks. I don't have a mountain sled it was the bf who has 3 of them. If I were to go myself I would more than likely rent a mountain sled so I will definitely look into that when planning to make a trip :)

most dealers in mountains rent sleds, back packs with avi gear and will give a quick run down of how to use, some will even deliver sled to staging area if required. obvious that you are interested in trying mountain riding so go for it. if not this year plan for next year

My wife isn't on a mountain sled either. She runs an 800 CrossFire with a 141 track, She can get around just fine on it. I stick to mainly Belle in McBride with her. She's been on Lucille and Renshaw before but just around the cabins.

One other thing that has helped my wife ride

Before last year she was scared of going down hills, and up some, because of a friend of hers roll her quad on a hill in front of her

I took her up and showed her how slow u can go up and down, and that if she did get going to fast the there was room to slow down

Now she is going up and down stuff, still scared, but knows she can do it, now she is trying to go up stuff I never thought I'd see

Also riding with a group of other women in say couples rides, will boost all of your riding

There's a few lady's rides in areas that have only lady's and also had lady's teaching, like Nadine overwater in sicamous this year, helps because they can teach and explain different than a guy for example
