If you only keep your truck a few years, stay under warranty, the diesel is the better bet. If you tend to keep your trucks 10+ years, the diesel becomes an expensive proposition. Particularly a modern emissions diesel. Eventually all trucks will need repairs. Everything for a diesel is way more money, starters, water pumps etc. Injectors and a fuel pump in a gasser is a few hundred. Same components in a diesel start at 5 and can easily go to 10k in a hurry. And you will eventually need them in either truck.
If you tow heavy, diesel is king. If you don’t, it’s an unnecessary want or luxury. To each his own.

The nice thing about a ridiculously big gasser (or diesel) is that they can nearly idle on the highway due to the huge torque. This makes them run with relatively low emissions and as they can be geared high they tend to last longer (as the rpm is lower.). I think this has been a key factor in manufacturers upping the displacement over the past few years.

Are you referring to the LS series of pushrod engines?

Funny you say that Tex, because Ford has been the automotive group that has pioneered a bunch of the chit Chevy has copied lmao. Ford just went back to their roots with this pushrod design.

Did you know that some LS heads will easily swap over bolt on to old pushrod 351's that have been around since the 60's, 70's, 80's? Which components of what I just mentioned were around first? There is guys running old Ford shortblocks with newer Chevy LS heads with custom cams to fix the firing order.
I actually meant spark plugs in the sides and not in the top ( gay balls)
