Tires for a rig, what to pick

fyi toyo tires are built by the same plant /manufacturer as nitto tires. exactly the same rubber etc. toyo m55 are about the best gravel tire going, i've tried almost every tire out there running survey crews. not much will hold up in the alberta oil roads. as far as i've seen.

Toyo MT's are crap, not all toyos, but they are all overpriced. I've ran m55's and toyo AT's to and like them but would never dream of buying a set new.

Ya nitto is owned by toyo or whatever but it doesn't mean much the tires are completely different.

Shipping is what killed me for the stuff I wanted from them, worth a call though. I had good luck with KXwheels...not cheaper than the US but close enough for me and not have to worry about the UPS brokerage rip off crap!

Well on my third set of toyo Mts and have had no issues Getting about 70,000 km per set. and getting them for 320.00 per tire . I have no issues with them
Would recomend them to anyone

Yep...looking like the only one here that doesnt like the Toyo is Cyle...Great tire, great mileage, and decent price, hmmm

By reading his posts, sounds like he doesnt buy new tires, so if you are buying used ones, how do you accurately judge the mileage you are getting out of them.

i ordered some from them for my old jetta smokin price. but by the time i got them here and paid all the duties and shipping costs i only saved about 100 bucks. and i still had to pay to get them mounted and balanced. wouldn't do it again. not worth it imo.

So far "80km" they are great no road noise, great on ice! They are the tallest Tire I could find with a 3500lbs+ rating

Working oilfield, finding good tires that handle ice and snow plus mud was always a tough one. When we did find one they couldn't handle the weight and the roads we were using them on. The Cooper Discoverer ST's were good snow/mud and ice, but 3 trucks had 4 flats within the first 10,000km's and the dealers wouldn't warranty commercial vehicles. The Open Country A/T's were a fair compromise, combined with the lesser power of the Fords and the slushier transmissions, ice traction was less of an issue.

I have ran various different Toyo light truck tires, in the summer they do a great job in the bush, but in the winter I do find their tread compound to be just a tad hard, usually have to carry a bit extra weight to compensate. Overall though, as good as anything on the market.

Best light truck winter tire? Hakkapeliitta and Nokian bar none, but summer work in the bush kills them.

Load range E don't mean much, a D can have a larger weight rating. I think it's toyo mt's in a 35x12.50R20 are only 3200lbs but are a E and that isn't really enough for a 1 ton. While maybe other D's get into 3600-3800lbs.

Personally, I love nitto mud grapplers, a lot are only d's but ran them with my old 3500 right to max without an issue ever. And they are 1000x the tire the toyos are. Just VERY loud. Or, the new trail grappler is really good and a lot of them are e's.

35X12.50R20LT 121Q E/10 = 3195 lbs

LT315/60R20 125/122Q E/10 (35X12.50R20) = 3640lbs
If you just do the right research you can have the toyo with the 3640lb rating per tire. although they are .4'' less wide.

Hope they are a good tire...Just ordered a set of 285-70-17 from Derrick Dodge...$280/tire getting them on tomorrow.

WOW just installed a new set of toyo m55 on the ford. man do they grip, nice siping for icy conditions, a little road noise, good to go. bring on the winter. 3rd set and smiles all around. best dam tire out there unless you are a highway 4x4 wanna be poser.
