Thoughts on Revy and/or Sicamous/Fernie

Not wanting to sound like a broken record, Fernie has some nice/great riding. It is not Revy, however!
It is the closest BC destination to Saskatoon and the easiest drive (not including Corbin). Fernie is like Revy in that being a "ski town", it is expensive for hotels, etc.. Our trees are a little tighter and being further south the tree line is a little higher. There is a lot less traffic (we can always find fresh untracked snow) and now that it has started to snow again, it is a great destination for mountain sledding. I just got back from sicamous. I ride northern b.c mostly, and I thought we had good snow and terrain. I couldn't believe what I've been missing. Cheap hotels and great riding. If you break something, there's a few great shops real close by that have pretty much anything you need.

I can't say enough good things about FERNIE lots of snow smoots trails to get in and out. A lot shorter then Ravi I'm also out of Scotchwood Bernie is close very seldom do I run into closed Highway's. They have a great club in FERNIE as well a couple of the local hotels are sponsors to the Fernie club and give good discounts just sledders. They have a good local cat and Yamaha dealership. The conditions are definitely tighter tree riding that revy There are some really great people inFernie. And coming out of Saskatoon you can be there a lot quicker than going to revel stoke It's definitely worthwhile to make a couple day trip to check it out

Revy/sicamous is consistently better than Fernie and they are not afraid to groom. Fernie has really good tree riding and usually better visibility. The roads are also rarely closed compared to Rogers pass.

What doo you mean by "they are not afraid to groom?"
Sicamous is amazing. I'm liking it there more and more, it's worth it to drive past Revy IMO. If I'm going down Fernie way I usually blow by and ride Cranbrook, the riding there is awesome and not as busy because people are too lazy to drive past Fernie. Castlegar also has some insane riding areas too with great snow.
If you have the option to, just watch the forecasts and forums and go where the snow is. That's the best.

Never been to Fernie. Next year for sure. One thing I don't like about Sicamous is the trail is is long in all the areas. It's usually warm there so the trails can get pounded out quit easily. But nice riding.

Sicamous is my fav of the three....some of the best tree riding in the BC interior, however, Fernie is awesome - if you know where to go and revy is great too if you stay out of the traffic areas
Grooming is an expensive operation....the clubs have to run it like a business and if the numbers don't add up...someone's gotta pull the reigns back. Revy see's more traffic in a day than fernie sees in a week...so once a week for fernie = everyday for revy!! It's not that Fernie club is afraid to groom...they just don't have the cashflow and resources to do it every day.

Fernie is no Revy or Sicy thats for sure but Fernie does get some deeeep snow and if you know where to go its a great place. Its not as big so to speak its tighter like most the south east rockies great tree riding and safe areas to play. I would say the light is better in fernie doesnt sock in to zero vis very often where revy and sicy that can happen nov thru february.
Sicy is not as busy as revy but very similar big and bad such great riding and snow. I wish revy and sicy was closer. and Fernie lol

How can you say Sicamous is amazing? You wouldn't ride with us there for the first 3 years because everywhere else was soooo much better
Depends on what type of riding you want. Fernie is still the second best kept secret in the Kootenay's. The front half gets all beet up and the tree's and drainages are left untouched for those willing to explore. Can't beet their trail pass prices either.
Sicamous offer's a few riding area's, all with cabins. There are vast areas the never get touched there. It doesn't have the big climbs like Revy, but still offers various riding terrain. Inbetween Revy and Sicamous is Eagle's Pass that the Sicamous club maintains the majority of the trail in. The last few miles can be beet up bad as they can not run the groomer all the way to the first gas drop.
Both are excellent riding areas.
Fernie, the season in Fernie is short. Often late snow then Spring rain to take away the trails. But, Fernie can really get big dumps of snow. The riding area is fairly large with relatively little traffic, especially further back. Most riding around 6500-7000ft. Terrain is not as steep with as big of climbs as other areas, but has great tree riding, meadows etc.
Golden, more snow generally than Fernie but less than Revy or Sicamouse. Generally the highest elevation riding some riding over 8000ft. with the lightest snow, but also the coldest weather. More clear days than Revy or Sicamouse. Some areas have big terrain, lots of traffic, but several less travelled riding areas too.
Revy, toss up with Sicamouse for the most snow. Most riding between 6000 and 7500ft with a couple areas a little higher. Mixed terrain with many riding areas, lots of areas with moderately complex topography. Snow can be heavy, with that many snowy/cloudy days. Lots of traffic, especially in a few well known riding areas, but many other less known areas.
Sicamouse can get dumps of snow but generally riding starts later than Revy and sometimes finishes earlier (access to alpine). The warmest riding conditions with terrain similar to Revy but with less pressure from sledding traffic.
Year over year, Revy has the best snow, the best grooming but by far the most traffic. For years we rode Revy almost exclusively but we started several years ago to spend more time in Golden and Sicamouse (just got tired of the road and the extra 4 or more hours of driving between Golden and Revy). Snow can been skinny in Golden and Fernie, but timing is everything - go to any of these places at the right time, they are all good.

I will ride anywhere and eagles pass is now my fave. I never said anywhere was better than there you guys just never invited me. Now I've found people that want to ride there and bring me and now I can lead eagles
We usually do a combined Revy/Sicamous trip and where we sled depends on the day of the week. Usually depart Calgary Wed. AM and sled Boulder and stay in Revy. Thursday Blue Lake (40 min from Revy) or Eagle Pass. Friday Griffin. Saturday Area 51.
Fernie area is very convenient for a day trip or a one night stay with 2 days of sledding. We usually go here if it pukes snow and a spur of the moment trip gets booked.

Fernie rocks for day trips as were rid-in from the door in 2 1/2 hrs . Revy and Sicamous and all points in between are Meca.
