Leave it turned off when not using or it will screw up your beacon

If my mini is like my iPhone it won't like the cold and be dead, plus could easily get broke carrying it on the sled. Just my 2 cents

Your phone takes better pics than that tablet doesn't it? Your buddies will chirp you for it too. I would. Leave it in the hotel room bro.

iPads don't have the battery power most phones do, there's too much surface area on the battery it will be drained so fast right when it gets cold.

Most phones have a better camera as well.

If you're looking for something to take pictures with. Just get a cheap point and shoot camera with a view finder. Put your eye up to it and you have a huge screen to look at. Plus running a view finder saves battery not running the LCD screen.

Shoot what videos you can and take what pictures you can, take a fast charge pack if you plan on taking a lot and off you go. Who cares what everyone says, I take took mine a couple times but realized that really a phone camera does the trick anyways..

Doesn't have to be turned off, just dont let it transmit aka airplane mode, but like said in the cold it wont even turn on by the time you get up top. Maybe on warm days it may last a bit but I know my phone takes way better pics than my ipad mini 2

Ill guarantee having a radio in your backpack will do more harm than a phone on airplane mode, tell me how a phone basically on for a camera purpose is gonna affect your beacon, if gps, wifi and signal antennae are off is it any different than those helmet cams everyone wears........ no not a bit, its just an electronic device, I keep the phone in my goggle bag anyway, not in my breast pocket, I would go through a lot of phones if I kept it there, my chest meets bars all the time lol

That's very debatable!

I think wifi is still on in airplane mode as that is how I connect to the planes network for entertainment. Never checked the GPS if it stays on.

Just got back from sledding, I had my 8 inch Samsung along. What a beating it must have taken on 20k of at least 2 foot moguls on the back of my sled. It stayed running all day and I had to use it several times. Memory Maps are fantastic in my opinion.

Nope wifi turns off as well, you can turn wifi on in airplane mode after you change it if you like but it turns gps, wifi, bluetooth and cellular coverage off when you hit the button

Without actually testing it myself, I can't say for sure how big an effect it would have. Any electronic device will generate EFI interference whether it's a transmitting device or not. Rule of thumb is not to keep the devices in close proximity to your beacon. Apparently, non-trasmitting devices are more of a concern for searching than for transmitting. Regardless, I'd test it myself before blindly trusting that it has no effect.
