Snow sliding off the roof just took out my dish so it's time to give this a try. Been watching Netflix more than the dish anyway. Land line might be next if it doesn't quit letting telemarketers through. :D

Your lucky, when I got home from work yesterday. I turn Netflix on and a screen pops up saying I need to disable my VPN/Proxy. When I first heard about it I thought they were hitting Australia first.

Android box for $150 - you can use your phone as the remote - runs Kodi (formerly XBMC). Kind of like Apple TV without the continual money grab.

I run an amazon fire TV box with XBMC ( kodi ) . I fin the Amazon box much more stable than the generic android boxes

havent had cable for 3 years and rarely miss it ! most everything , even local news , can be found on Kodi

What are you trying to say here?. Are you telling me to pay more for the same thing?.

Kodi will run on any almost any device.

Yes kodi will run on most things. You could use your phone and mircast or stream to your TV if you want. You can load it on your laptop and watch TV on that too. Android box hooked to your tv is a pretty cheap decent way cut the cable.

We have a ruko box. Good for Netflix. The other apps are American and wont work with our internet. I haven't tried to hard to make it work tho either.

My gf's realtor was telling us yesterday, that her family only has Shaw for internet. Approx $40/month and they have dropped everything else.
Most flat screen tv's are laptop or pc compatible. I am seriously considering this route and saving about a 100 bucks a month.
But I need to buy a new laptop first...............

Just get a smart TV and the laptop is a lot less necessary. I download stuff right to an external hard drive. Plug er in and away ya go.

Yes we are getting ripped off for Cable, internet and phones.

Please tell me more about android boxes, a google search didn't help much. I have a smart TV and Netflix.

Local news ? Movie selection and live sports ?

Live sports is the main reason I can't cut the cord. The streams are very unreliable for live programming and are often low quality if you find one.

I am an avid NHL fan, I cancelled my Bell Dish and bought the Rogers Game Centre hockey package on the early season price. We have some blackout due to location, but I just activate a VPN on my phone and AirPlay it to my AppleTV. Works great for us :)

Look up Kodi XBMC android box. If your in the Edmonton area you can find them on kijiji. If your pretty good with using a computer they are simple to use. There is a forum for the Kodi box which is really helpful.
