I was looking into moving somewhere a bit nicer in the not too distant future. I've been looking into Valemount and McBride mainly. What would be your preference and why? I don't want to go much further from Grande Prairie than that as I'll be still working there and coming home for days off.

I vote valemount. The people are great and it is a total sledders community in the winter. Vale has 4 main riding areas with groomed trails looked after by VARDA plus the oasis and westridge backcountry areas. valemount is closer to blue river which is also a great place to ride.

We moved to Prince George in August. I was raised here, left four days after I graduated and said I would never come back. After 13 years, my husband and kids moved back with me to be closer to family and the mountains. I have to say: it was a great choice! We have trails right out our back door, lakes in every direction, sledding 1/2 hour north, mountains an hour away and McBride is two hours. Aside from the RideWithChrisBrown clinic in Valemount, we have slept in our beds every night after sledding :) Its awesome. They have a really great community of sledders and outdoorsy peeps and we have met some really really awesome new play partners!! Prince George itself has a College and a University as well as a tonne of industry and job choices. Housing here is waaaay more affordable than Grande Prairie, Edmonton, etc., I work in the hospital and have a great role there with all the medical residents and students. For being so far north, it is a very progressive community. They have awesome programs for kids and a tonne of recreation and art programs for all ages. My husband still works away in Alberta for his stints; that hasn't changed at all. Aside from the HST, I really have no complaints. I never thought I would say it, but PG is a wonderful place to live if you enjoy the outdoors... Valemount is 2 hrs45mins away :)

just thought i would give life back into this thread.... whats the attitude from locals towards people moving into they're towns and starting new companies and "taking away" work from the local people? It has always been a dream of mine to open up a bed and breakfast along with a shop out back to do odd repairs to anything that needs fixing and combine it with my love of the outdoors and quadding and sledding... I'm a Plumber by trade but grew up with a automotive back ground and have worked in a bodyshop years ago, so i have what i believe is a good mechanical background... some days i would just love to get away from the big cities and take life a bit more casual and enjoy the view out my window rather than running out the door and trying to keep up with the rat race.

Don't think there can be too many b&b's. Can there? That's what we are gonna do when we move to Valemount.
