So I'm working on a piece about mental triggers that undermine self esteem... what are yours?

so far for me I've identified the following things that lower my self confidence.

1. Riding a new area
2. Riding with new people
3. following a path my husband lays out off camber in hard snow (immediately makes my mind freeze)

Thanks for your In Put peepers!

A large move that takes full commitment. And if you don't make it...there is serious consequence.

That is such a good point... and it's all relative.. the "big move" of one, could be insignificant to another.... working past the nasty consequence in the mind can be HUGE

I agree with HRT. When there's a badass, full commitment move with big consequences I tend to revert to newbie rider status sometimes. It can be a move I've done a hundred times with success...but in some spots it's tough to bust it when the consequences are high. ESPECIALLY if it's a right hand move...those have an instant mind block for me. All the confidence in the world on the left...not so much on the right.

Those moves are especially hard when there's people watching too:D I can side hill steep technical stuff all day long when "I want" to, but it's a whole new game wen "I have" to. Especially, when the consequence is a write off, injury or even worse - loss of PRIDE:D I know...typical male:D:D

there's one longass 1 km plus clutch side, side hill to cross the 2nd saddle at RDF that puckers the sphincter every frickin time.
should'nt be an issue after years & years, but still brings out embarassing riding skills

Not having a "sick" looking wrap and a polished tunnel.

Leaving the house and realizing that I forgot my flat brimmed cap, white rimmed sunglasses, and tapout t shirt.

Hitting a monster kicker, catching 3+ feet of air in the process, and realizing I forgot to turn my helmet cam on.

I'm ok with the people watching the worst for me is as soon as someone says "hang on till I get my video/camera out" nothing good ever follows that. Its either a big let down or a total $hit show never does it turn out to be "epic footage".

A video camera is my Kryptonite. I can go pull off a dozen sweet turns, climbs, technical moves, as soon as the camera comes out to catch the action, its inevitable...I cash.

They need to sneak the camera out so we never see it!

Yeah and visability...not the weather variety. I hate my goggles being frosted/fogged. It annoys me I am so particular about my goggles! :p

coming down a super steep hill in the spring at 100mph with tite trees at the bottom, doesnt really suck the confidence out of me, just scares this chit out of me!!!!
a big wind lip that you know would be a sweet launch, but you cant see over the other side, even after checking multiple times, knowing exactly whats there. cant seem to get the balls to just pin it at the lip and hope for the best!!!!

Riding/climbing in a new area. There seems to be a sense of calm climbing the same hills every trip as you get a certain degree of trust with them. Riding in the fog as well. Spent the night on the hill once. Not recommending it to anyone as a fun experience. Lol.

I would have to say my googles fogged/frozen and being in new territory. My husband always tells me "just follow me it's all good" Ya RIGHT I still can't see. LMAO I also don't like riding with new peeps. I can ride pretty good and then one of my husbands friends will come for a ride and I look like I've never been on a sled before, stuck upside down in a tree well, over the handle bars or some other really exciting move that includes pain.
