Just from my experience: 2009 Yamaha Nytro MTX- Not saying good bad or ugly, just putting it out there.

Sled: $12,285 all in
Yearly oil change: $45 X 3 = $135 (yamaha full Syn.)
Gear Oil yearly: $8 X 2 = $16
2 Belts: $180
New Challenger Track: $800 (Installed my self but you could add 400-500)
MBRP Exhaust and Fuel programmer: $600
CR handlebar offset: $35
2 Inch Riser: $80
Total Fuel:$625.80
Total km: 1900km
Seasons of Riding: 3

Total Cost: $14,756.80
Cost Per Season: $4918.93
Cost/km: $7.76/km

Of course the more you ride the lower the cost should be per km but I would interested in seeing a comparision to a similar year/mileage 2 stroke...

Whats your guys thoughts?

if your looking at it that way.. take 28000$ and figure the rest in like you have.. but use 3000km a year.

i dono either way i look at it, its money well spent really.. you cant compare sledding to anything els in the world really. like this last weekend.. step off your sled and you fall to your waste in snow.. just epic.. well worth the 5000$ a year in my eyes

ya but now you have to subtract what your sled is worth after the 3 riding seasons.......and since yamaha has a good resale value, your cost per KM goes way down.....I would say instead of factoring in the cost of the sled, a better calculation would be to factory in the depreciation......I bet your sledding per KM is cheaper than 90% of all fun things to do now! lol

The obvious solution is to ride more to bring that overall $/km down. I was thinking about it and thought I would put it out there.

Totally agree well worth the cost, otherwise winter would be a long 6 months of drinking alone in the garage...

If you are worried about the cost of the sport you are into you are in the wrong sport. Ride whatever brand makes you happy. But don't whine when a Boosted Yamaha blows past you on the mountain. :Cool9:

I own apex and u do a lot of oil changes I do it once every 5000 km I change a belt once a year and I leave the sled stock becase the more u play with it the more it breaks . All I want to do is ride and have a good time if u want to be the big boy on the hill the cost is through the roof and this is what I do with my kids and this is cheap to what it would cost u if your kids are in drugs.

Your math is flawed. Did you drop a match in the gas tank at the end of the second season? There still is residual value and there is many more miles left on that sled.

New Cat $14,000 non turbo
extreme track $1100 + install
exhaust $$$$$$
new intake (because the first time she rolls its screwed)
fuel ...well fuel is fuel
belts...same thing unless your riding a Doo

As for the two strokers, well ....there two strokers
pots, pistons and cranks are not cheap either

Really? that must suck! I can see that being more expensive than say fuel, belts, well even the price of the whole sled of 3 years! lol
