Fair enough....maybe at this moment we are NOT rat free.......but we HAVE been rat free in the past and I believe we WILL BE rat free again in the near future.....but still...all in all, a pretty damn good record compared to other provinces/states...

Don't get all jazzed about your rat free status as your claim to fame.

it's not an "Alberta" thing, it's a hot rod moneymakin' oil patch worker thing....and there are plenty of combine pilots from behind the straw curtain that fit that bill. just sayin

SK will always be known as "the gap" Its like no mans land, people that want to work are in AB, people that like to enjoy summers on the water are in MB.
Just do what my brother in law does back home go ratting with his terriers. But don't tell anyone because your not aloud to do it anymore lol.

I still think we are considered rat free. It isn't widespread, or else it would be detected for sure.
Perhaps rat free isn't the correct term , but controlled successfully is the other definition.
I read that a pair of rats can end up being over 200 in a year, and 1.8 million in 2 years...that is if the ideal conditions arise.\\

Yes, they are very prolific.
I was thinking that a big fire in that dump in TheHat would have some success but it would have to be an instant start as those little buggers would just quickly move out and get away from the danger. Then I thought about strategically placed dynamite! If one blew that dump to smithereens, would the shock wave kill those suckers?

Might be the lesser of two evils...............a chit load of rats in "rat free' Alberta would also be an environmental disaster would it not?

Poison? Man the environmental activist's went bazerk when 10 ducks died in a tailing pond at Ft. Mac. How would they react when there are mega dead chit hawks laying all over the country?

Norway rats are one of the most destructive creatures known to man. They destroy and contaminate untold quantities of food, and through their tunneling activities, undermine the foundations of buildings, sewer and water lines, and city streets. Rats also weaken and deface buildings by gnawing holes through floors, walls, insulation and supporting structures. Norway rats carried the flea that spread plague throughout Europe and Asia. Even today, they spread organisms responsible for food poisoning, hepatitis, tularemea and other diseases.
Ducks, on the other hand, don't compare to what a rat does....therefore when birds start to die in tailing ponds, people speak up....

put a a half dozen rat terriers in the dump, be rat free over night. they are way better than cats n traps/poison.

I'm talking about the birds that hang out at the dump and eat stuff. Including dead rats full of poison.

i moved to AB from BC... I can tell you AB is rat free... MH has a dump where they keep popping up... someone should stop the SK pest control companies crossing the border perhaps their creating work.... anyhow my point... the Rat Patrol aims to keep us rat free... good use of tax dollars in my opinion... hire more if you have to... i hate those freakin things... worst critter there is...
