I stayed out of this for 8 pgs but I just gotta say something.

Building Inspectors are jokes - WRONG - We are building a cabin back home and the building inspector is the most stringent guy you will ever meet example: the insulation had to all be faced even with the wall, like perfectly even. My dad almost had to get out the micrometer. He has commented that our cabin is one of the best structures he has seen. I got the same comments from the building inspector here in Calgary on my garage. My father is a machinist and and I'm a scientist, not professional house framers.

Contractors are Gods gift to the building world - WRONG - ever heard of the leaky condos - thanks to shitty contractors, we have to install $2500 worth of duradeck on a cabin in the middle of the interior, on a covered deck that will never see moisture. All because some "professionals" on the coast did a shitty job and so the govt changed the building code and everyone else has to suffer.

Our house was built by "professionals" - two wrong walls, doors installed wrong, light switches wired wrong, too many outlets installed on one circuit, blah blah blah. One of my colleagues houses was ruined because the "professionals" backfilled the foundation too soon and bowed the wall, their solution was going to be jackhammer the wall, push it back into place and then seal it - THIS IS THE FOUNDATION OF THE HOUSE!! Her lawyer said fix it right so they did in the end, but cmon man.

Our neighbours had their garage built by "professionals", who built it so out of square and screwed the trusses so bad, they had to tie a truck to one end and have 3 guys pulling on a strap on the other end to straighten it enough to nail the trusses. It failed inspection 3 times, once for framing, once for not enough anchors in the walls, and once for electrical.

So, was there no electrical inspection in your house? Because a inspector obviously missed that.

Like anything there is good and bad, but the majority of inspectors will pass anything. They have no liability if something happens after. Most things in a house aren't rocket science, all it takes is someone wanting to do a good job and a bit of experience.

I've gotten foundation and weeping tile inspection before it was poured, framing before the roof is even close to finished, blocking missing EVERYWHERE, and it goes on and on. Behind schedule, forget to rebook it to find out it passed anyways......It's scary.

I've had to pull in a garage wall 5" because the roof was built on the ground and set on, but no one bothered to attach the roof to the walls after, no garage doors on meant the wind kept pushing out the wall. Was mm away from slipping off the walls and collapsing the entire garage and a lot of the house. Passed all inspections though

Where's the house building thread? Would love to check it out! :)

Work2Ride: have a crazy Wednesday night? I ended up having a bit of one too. Took today off :D Karaoke, pool, 1am drinking at my place. Fun times

Rowdy: Watched the hockey game, went out to the bar, met some people that I hope I never see again. Woke up in the middle of the night, puked in her sink and walked 20 blocks to my truck that felt like forever. Woke up, ate half a loaf of banana bread and had a nap till 3:00 with my puppy.

Lets go Vancouver.
