Thanks for picking up after the slobs who can't figure out how to use a garbage can. Very much appreciated!

I drove from Drumheller to Airdrie to Stony Plain and saw hundreds of people in the ditches.

I drive through the Pass to Lethbridge and saw all the garbage bags by the roadside. I thought those were some new jobs Nothead created!

I was one of them picking garbage. Picked up a lot of tims coffee cups, fast food garbage and cigarette packs. I dont know why people have to throw garbage out the window. Highway clean up plan is funded by the government for non profit organizations for fund raising. They pay $100 / km.

I picked up stuff last year. Like Phat Cat said, lots of times and fast food. I wonder if its people actively throwing stuff out the window, or just stuff flying out of backs of trucks. I know there was lots of stuff that the wind had blown from a residential construction area onto the ditch.

Its a lot of work, my hats off to the volunteers that did it this year.

I saw tons of large items beside road with garbage, there was even a whole seat from a car. That stuff doesn't blow out of a truck by accident. Can't believe people just dump ****e in the ditch, no respect for anything.

Yep. Found a spare tire once. This year we found a plastic molded package from a dildo. I guess someone couldn't wait to get home to open it. Haha

I've helped with the annual highway cleanup with our local 4-H club and dance clubs that our kids were member's of over the years.....I am willing to bet that any of those kids (and adults) who experience walking a few miles along a sloped ditch all day picking up trash are NOT part of the littering SOB's today.....the experience really does affect attitudes on littering.

I've often thought that along with a monetary fine, people caught littering should be forced to spend 1 day picking garbage along the highway along with those groups.

I'm sure some of it was accidental, but I'm quite certain the bulk of it wasn't. I can't believe how many people I've seen that don't give a second through to throwing their McDonalds bag (or anything for that matter) right out the window. Frigg'n pigs!

I really like Cat401's thoughts on giving them community service when caught.
