Here is a question for everyone, where are you putting the money in your TFSA accounts? Obviously a higher rate of return with a little more risk is what I'm looking for being the reason for a TFSA, but that begs the question of where? Its just pointless having it in an account getting 1.25%, I have been looking at a Q-Trade account but since I know little about investing it might be wiser to invest it in my sled. Any Ideas are greatly appreciated.

You can invest it in just about whatever you want, but it's only tax free for Canadian assets. mutual funds, etf's, stocks, etc. are all fair game. Some strategies say to use the tfsa for more risky investments - if it works out well you don't have to pay any tax. I try to play it a little safer myself though - you can't claim any tax losses either.

So for everyone that has/is going self managed how are you investing it, going to the local broker to buy stocks, or through an online brokerage such as Q-trade?

I have mine set up with Credential Direct which is affialiated with Servus Credit Union. I use it for investing in the stock market.
