I tried that route as well. Bought a cheapo tether switch that I ended up replacing with the OFT Roll Over Valve that has a tether built in. My opinion is save your $20 and put it toward an OFT Roll Over Valve.

I have a tether wired in mine, works great other then i dont use it often, i will take pics and post them soon.

I installed a tether on my 07 Phazer (similar enough) Install a normally closed tether inline with the brown stop button wires. Check this out: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=97610&highlight=

Got the rollover valve tether very easy to install just plug and play.

Yamaha now offers a rollover tether kit, its in the accessories catalog, I put one on my nitro, it works great and was easy to install...plug and play !!!
