so yesterday me and my dad got our dune buggy driveable!!!!! yay! but when my dad hopped in and i started it , we let it warm up , he hit the gas and it reved up no prob but it would not move!:( so i pushed him as hard as i could and it starts goin! the mid-range was good , but the top end was like 30 km/h! ????????????? too the floor!:( but it seemed like it wanted to go faster it just could not! after that our clutch (off a yamaha enticer) is stuck open!;) i am thinking that the main drive gear (the small one) is to big. but i dont know why the clutch is stuck! but we did not break anything or bend. but polarice was right , the steering is to sensative so our friend is giving us a vw rabbit so were are gonna take the rack'n'pinion of it (it does not run) does anybody know what to do? please help us!

move your pivot point(s) on the steering shaft out a little and this will reduce some of the steering ratio, which will not make it as sensitive. Post a pic of the steering where it goes from the shaft to the tie rods and I'll show you what I mean.

Sticking clutch can be a common problem. What motor is it?

Just need one pic. Or find me the link to your other thread, I think it has some pics there already.

Could try the comet - not sure what its calibrated for though - was it calibrated for the enticer?

Tap the one that's on it and see if it goes shut, sometimes they just get stuck a little due to the belt dust.

never mind fixed it:) turned out it was not stuck , the belt we had was to wide , so the clutch would not close. does anybody know how to get it to move without giving it a good hard push? or why you have to rev it so high to get go so slow?

there are 17 on the small one and 35 or 36 on the big one.

Where is the small one and where is the big one? The small one should be attached to the shaft that comes from the secondary clutch and the big one should be attached to the axle that powers the wheels. Yamaha specs an 11, 12 or 13 tooth top sprocket, so 17 is way toooo big. It doesn't list a # of teeth for the bottom sprocket, but start with the one that you have (36 teeth) and see what happens. I'm guessing an 11 or 12 top sprocket will get you a lot closer and get you starting out better. Right now its like you are trying to start out in 4th gear.

yup 17 up on the shaft , 36 on the axle! so we will try a 12 or 13 tooth gear and see if it works. we might also have a weak secondary!:(

I would 11 first, 12 tops. That thing looks like it has some serious weight to it compared to a sled so I'd start low and then work up from there. Just my experience talking...... :)

i just found a 13 tooth gear in our garage that fits the chain!:d it just needs to be cut a little bit to fit the shaft! should we try that before we go and buy won? or would it be worth it?
