anyone using the Telus Smart Hub? We live out of town and no shaw/telus fibre optics so we use a company that has a couple repeater antennas and not happy with them at all. Been a customer for years and cant stand the fact that when we have issues they won't return calls etc etc or talk the geek BS about why we are having issues. Latest one was the magnetic force in the rocks by our house LOL.

Tried it for a month, was supposed to be unlimited for $100/month. Could see why, didn't work for shat and we can see the tower from the house. Went back to the Rogers rocket, and I hate Rogers but that hub works good. Just don't go over your plan.

tks Tom!!! Telus has 250 gb for $75/month now and apparently if we have good cell service (which we do) it is supposed to work great. However, the hub box also works as a router so when I asked customer service how much radius it has the guy could not answer me. I googled it as well but cant seem to find that info.

We also have full cell coverage. Funny thing is it's actually the exact same unit as the Rogers one but for whatever reason it just didn't work. The store even replaced the unit but it just didn't work. I will agree there plan is better a but we just couldn't get it to work.

I have been using mine now for about 6 months. $75/250G. Works great and allows me to stream movies all I want. Did many speed tests on it using the free app. 14-29 bps compared to xplornet with 2-8 bps at best. They offer free trials.

I've had mine for about a month and a half, Xplorenet on a good day was about 3mbps Telus hub is just under 10 Mbps. Nice to watch a video without the buffering.

Had mine 2/3 months.

Was mildly better that my explornet but since my 30 day trial ended i have had numerous outages for a couple days at a time. Constantly unplugging and power cycling. Sometimes it works fine after that. Some times nothing! Evenings also slow right down.

For me It sucks but it sucks just a little less than my explornet.

I have the 250 GB plan for $75.00. It sucks hard. It worked great for the trial period and then slowed down to nothing. I phoned Telus several times and they told me that 0.5 MB download speed is acceptable and I was stuck in the contract. I hate Telus

If you're having trouble with slow speeds try switching to 4G only in settings. I did that with mine and it seems to have fixed it. Also if there are lots of people on the same cell tower as you it slows it down quite a bit.

I'm just add the end of the trial period with one, think it may replace my xplornet satellite. I had to buy a home cell booster as well as the hub alone didn't have enough balls to generate any decent speed. With the booster I'm seeing around 10-20 Mbps, satellite was 8-10 but slowed to 1-3 after 7PM is seemed.

I think that might be the issue. If you live rural and maybe only a tower or two around it creates a issue. In BC anything Telus or Bell will be coming off that tower, iPods, cellphone etc.

think I am going to try it and tell our current provider to stuff his crap. One thing is to have poor signal/ buffering and another extremely poor service. I assume with Telus you call and have a chance to get something done compared to my current provider. Tks for all the input!

You can try a wireless point to point provider. I see TekSavvy has coverage around Vernon, so they might be able to service you. I'm currently using a similar type of provider for business internet and am getting speeds of 80 MBps for both upload and download with the option to go even faster. I would think any decent provider should be able to get you residential 25/5 for under $100/mo. These guys are starting to pop up everywhere, so if you do some digging there's a possibility of finding one with service in your area.

One thing you do need to be mindful of is the providers that oversell their services - Telus is famous for this. Before committing to anything, get them to guarantee you the minimum transfer rate (eg. 95% uptime and min 75% of 25Mbps).

Back to xplornet speeds with the smart hub. Think Telus over-subscribed the towers.

Had ours for long time was 50mps at first now its 20-25mps streams movies fine and you can take it anywhere with you at this point, cheaper than gm's hot spot data rates.
have you done that? I wanted to take my telus smart hub camping but was told we'd be penalized for using it anywhere other than home.
