Switching oil brand

I recently purchased a 2017 axys with 500 miles and the other guy used Torco oil in the sled. He said it was a better oil than the VES Gold however I’m not sure I agree. Is there a specific way to switch back to VES if the reservoir is full of torco? Is it as simple as letting the oil get low and adding VES or should I be draining the reservoir? Any tips would be awesome.

Any oil rep will tell you not to mix the two oils but it has been done for ever. Honestly I would run it with what you have it has made it this far and Torco is pretty solid get it low and add your brand of choice.

Or buy a cheap turkey baster and suck out as much of the Torco with it as you can.

I would just run the Torco low, lower than you would normally let it get and then refill with VES.

With mine I let it run down to about 1/3 tank of VES Extreme, then topped it up with Ipone which I switched over to.

Torco is definitely better oil then VES. Torco, Ipone, legend are all better oil. I personally don’t think VES is a great oil it’s not that clean burning and leaves more burnt hard residue on power valves then other oils. That’s the stuff that makes them stick. VES is a last choice no other options oil for me.

Even my Polaris dealer doesn't run ves. Too much crap on the exh valves. They like the opti2 and that's what they sell me. Won't void my warranty either. Oh and it's cheaper than ves.

Just bought several jugs of VES at Cycleworks Calgary. 4 for the price of 3 this time of year and my dealer knows I support them and there is no question when anything warranty is concerned. Not saying other brands will void warranty only that supporting a dealer may result in them going to bat for you when there are questionable concerns.

I agree Chris, if there is any warranty claim at all, that's one less thing to question. There are several oil brands I'm sure that are as good or possibly better, but I've not had motor or sticky exhaust valve issues running ves gold and I go through lots of it. I buy my ves gold oil by the barrel, currently on barrel #6. It's a bit of a hassle but there is a fairly good savings by the barrel as well.

I sold a 2007 dragon 700 a few years back with 10,000 km. Top end was done at 4500km. The only oil it ever saw was Ves gold so I’m thinking it can’t be that bad. I have always been a firm believer in using what a machine calls for but that’s just me. Maybe I have just been lucky.
