Looking at some properties around Swan Hills area, haven't been around there in 30years. What's happening these days? Job market? Healthcare?
I've had enough of the BC communism.
Also looking in the Barrhead and Ft Assiniboine areas. Wife's family is from
Barrhead so have a good idea what's happening there.

Swan Hills is very quiet from last I had heard, not a lot going on in terms of Work, not sure on the healthcare and that side of things but I do know people up there I can put you in touch with.

The medical waste facility that burns everything is about to be shut down with no plan for replacement. That will eliminate some jobs.

Nothing wrong with our area, Whitecourt is a good place as well, lots of work around here

Razor Energy has a gas plant, power plant, geothermal plant and Bitcoin mines there too. They filed for some kind of bankruptcy protection back in January. Might be some more jobs lost there too.

You're in between Whitecourt, Slave lake, and High Prairie though. So if you're willing to drive there's going to be work to be had.

I live in Whitecourt, which IMO is a better option, have been here pretty much my whole life and could show you around some areas, swan hills has very little to no services and is kind of a dive and a dying town. Houses are cheap but tough to sell, my wife’s friend from work lives there and they can’t sell their house, they’ve been trying for a long time so they can move to WCT as she works at the Whitecourt hospital but no luck.

Athabasca. 130 KM from the city, new rec center, high school, home prices are reasonable.

Whitecourt and Athabasca are both river valley towns with pulp mills. I know Pano-Dude is an outdoorsy type... might need a jet boat!

Slave lake could be an option too, fair but of variety for employment and awesome fishing, hunting, and anything outdoors just outside town. Housing is reasonable, but not cheap.

It has both a Catholic and Public (public was better when I went to elementary school there 20 years ago) school system and a reasonable hospital.

Surrounded big time by reserves though, in Whitecourt we have no reserves other than Alexis which has no population, just land with a casino on it. We have an awesome snowmobile club, best around our whole area, connect to all the trail systems, more work here as well but we don’t have a huge lake next door. Company I work for just bought their pulp mill in slave lake ,as well as quesnel river pulp so we’re expanding big time which helps our town stay relevant

That's by far the biggest downside of the town.

I like the Rocky area but land is expensive. I'm willing to give up the daily mountain life for a large piece of land.
