hey everyone,

i'm considering either an f250 or 350 as the lease on my f150 is up soon. Having never owned a diesel before what are some things that need to be known before purchase? This is for work as well as daily driving for the wife and I.
Because of the lease situation, I either have to purchase the leased f1, or trade it in on something else from the dealer.

Thanks!

Well if you’re looking at a new F2/350 first thing is that you will have no fuel economy. As far as what you need to know well it’s not a jump into the driver seat and go, you will need to let the truck warm up, in the winter it takes my truck about 15 mins before it gets to the lower end of the operating temp. The older it is outside the longer I let it run for. In the winter plug it in all the time. When you’re about to turn your truck off it’s a good idea to put it in park and wait about 30 seconds to let the egt’s drop and for the turbos to slow down.

I own a 2009 F350 and with the new environmental systems aka the DPF I would get about 400ish km as my daily river in the city. I have since done a few upgrades and now I get 600ish km per tank.

Other than that I love my F350 I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I have the spartan tuner, s&b cold air intake, 4 inch exhaust, and a spearco intercooler.

At first all I had was a s&b intake, 4 inch exhaust and a dpf delete but the dpf delete isnt worth the money.

how do you find driving the truck in the city? on my current F1, with a 135L tank, I only get 600km in the city anyways so they seem comparable?

How tall is the f350 stock? I would hate to gun for the last spot in a garage and tear the roof off!

Driving in the city is awesome, I have 0 issues. Its comparable but I have put in $4000, I just want you to know they are not good on diesel. I am sure some other members have F350's on here that they run stock, let us know what kind of mileage your getting using your truck as your daily driver.

I have 2010 F2010 with 6.4 getting around 800km/ tank, mostly on highway. I have not hooked my 5th wheel up to it yet, have to see how that goes.

SWB 100 litres @ 600 km is about 16.8 MPG or 16.6 Ltrs/100Km

LWB 135 litres @ 800 km is at 16.5 MPG or 16.8 Ltrs/100Km

That's about were I was at with my 2008 SWB 6.4. 118,000 km. Got 19 mpg on a run up to Kitimat running 125 kmh, empty. Only saw that once though. Was happy with that.
My 2010 6.4 SWB just running around town is sitting at 13.5 mpg. with 5000 km. Not too happy with that. But I really like the truck so I quit thinking about the poor mileage.

Gee I wish they would put a decent gasser in the superduties.

Guess I will have to wait until 2011.

has anyone heard anything about the 2011 350's with the new engine?

Many people seem to be hating the DPF and having serious issues with it, was that a problem in 09, or 10? Any ideas how the DPF will be for the 11's?

Sorry for being such a noob! Thanks though!

The 2011's will have a dpf, it will also have urea injection, it is supposed to reduce the amount of regens, but how much is this urea going to cost from ford. As far as it really helping I have my doubts, the one thing I do see helping is the 6 speed trans in the 2011.

We have guys getting 800 kms to a tank on summer fuel with a shortbox which works out to around 11-12 litres per hundred. Some say they are doing better but 22-23 mpg is reasonable in the summer depending on how you drive.Call us if you have any questions @ 403-346-2282

i don't think a 08 and up f350 4x4 with stock 20" wheels will go through a standard 7 ft gragage door
