Suncor well on fire 3-10-12

Security is pretty tight up there right now, they don't want any info getting out!
All I know is they are gonna owe us some money for cooked equipment!

Beyond that, someone else can put their neck on the line and share information.

I have first hand info on what happen, yes there was a BOP on the rig, and a certain part of the BOP failed, a friend and ex co-worker was hurt when this happen...I find it funny to see how people can come up with their own stories, and feel the need to make them public when they have no clue. I am not saying any names, but I know that it was an Underbalanced well, which means there is always gas to surface hence the white vertical pressure tank...which I seen being built 5 years ago.

Wow I spent many hours welding on that rig back when I chased rigs for Nabors. Burning rigs down is nothing new for Nabors! That's a fairly new rig to.

But according to Suncor no one was hurt...interesting

A spokesperson for Suncor, Sneh Seetal said "a handful" of employees were on location at the time of the explosion and rig fire but none were injured. "We've brought in well control specialists. We're conducting daily aerial fly-overs by helicopter. The fire has been contained to the site and the site is secure," she said

There was no one hurt, well remains on fire. Surface casing is been dug out to find a suitable area to cut it off. The intermediate casing will then be cut off and dressed. BOP will be installed and well killed. How do I know; I'm there...

I saw a bunch of burnt junk going south on the 43 yesterday, assumed it was from that lease.

Here is the real scoop; Rig had run and set intermediate casing and was drilling ahead. The Doig formation was encountered and is significantly overpressured in this area. Mud weight was insufficient and a kick was taken. Kick was been circulated out with insufficient mud weight and a second kick entered the wellbore. The HCR may have washed out at that point. Instant fire, all crew abandoned the rig, very quickly rig fell over. Flames chased the driller and hands out of the doghouse. No injuries, lots of equipment damage. Both the Halfway and Doig intervals are sour, thus the road blocks and security. No problem with sour gas when its burning other than SO2. Big problem when its not as a large area would require evacuation. Very little to no H2S has been detected to date. These types of situations pose many risks but a methodical approach will hopefully mitagate the risks and the well will be brought under control. A relief well may be drilled as a seconday option to kill the well.

So your telling me that my buddy that got hurt didn't get hurt and isn't at home recovering?....weird.
