Anyone read the letters in the Sun today. Some guy wrote how the guys with atv's/snowmobiles, 40K trucks and 350K homes are not helping the people in Haiti. I'm not sure about you guys but I give an average 2K a year to various charities and find that to be a bit of an insult. He mentions 74% don't donate....maybe we're the 26% that do.

You can't give to every charity out there.I like to give to stars and charities as such that I know will help my community.Donating to schools here and various sports teams is also my choices.Would like to help these other countries out but our government seems to do that.Don't think that the money they hand over to help all of these other countries plus sending troops over there is coming out of their pocket change. That is our hard earned federal taxes that we pay each week or biweekly.Just sayn.

he's just pissed that he doesn't have the truck/ house. probably one of those guys that all their money is up the nose or in the arm. and its societys fault that he cant keep a job. i know the wife and i give/donate an average of 10k a year to various shelters and our church. and we are some of the lower amounts out there.

Yeah usually us guys that have $350+ homes, trucks and toys, ect, are the biggest tax payers out there. He should be thanking us, plus we are supporting companies that enploy our people by buying this stuff.Like to see what he paid in income tax last year.

Same here..... I donate all my empty bottles/cans to our elementary school, STARS, Caritas, the stollery, and the hair massacure get donations each year and I did donate to the haiti relief fund..... no where near 10K a year (kutos to you) but I try to do my part..... and I still can't afford a big lifted truck....

Charity begins at home..... I'm all for helping out the less fortunate but I would prefer my donations to go to the ones who are not in a situation by their own devices.... Children, diaster relief and, services I may one day depend on.....

I sell Real Estate in Edmonton, and here is the exact stats. Got to be honest they are talking about every Edmontonian. I think there is some more education that needs to happen there on his part.

Quote for Edmonton Real Estate Board Website for the month of Dec 2009

"The price of residential property remained stable in December with single family homes dropping just one third of a percent and condos increasing 5.4% to reverse the 2.5% drop in November. An average* priced single family property in the Edmonton area sold for $366,761 in December; down from $368,018 in November. The average price for a condo was $244,174; up from $231,684 the previous month." As a side note we finished up 4.23% for the year on average home price.

I don't think the price of the toys or homes has anything to do with it. I have not given to the releif effort for the simple reason that my donations go else where. Not that I don't think it is not a worthy cause, I just think they all are. Mine goes to the Stollery. I would suggest that any parent at the stollery is going through the same mental state as what is going on down there. Just my opinion.

Is someone going to write a rebuttal to his letter then and put this douche canoe in his place?

I work for charities many times throughout the year. I prefer the physical labour end of things because it actually produces tangible results, I'm not as big of fan of donating money (even though I still donate to a lot of charities) because half the time it goes to executives or slush funds and never makes it to the real people that need it. I'd rather make 1000 meatballs that I know people will get to eat, than donate cash.

I can say that the 30 million that was donated to haiti was not just from the 30% of canadians that donated. I wounder what he donated....

I make a habit of donating things of value that people can use. Bottles and cans to the local hockey club, food to the homeless, clothes and furniture to the less fortunate and my time to anyone that needs a hand. I have always been leary about giving money to charitable organizations when I don't have a clue about how charitable they actually are.

This author sounds like the typical complainer that does not benifit this world one bit. In the amount of time that he took to type his letter he could have raised thousands by going door to door asking for donations. JMO!

I'm more disapointed that the SUN published his letter rather than him writing it.

government will donate millions with or without my consent, don't expect to be shelling anything out of my own pocket, who knows, the dp from haiti, the lt gov will fleece us out of a pile for them. that's all that i'm donating.
don't really care if anyone likes it or not, as we have our own problems right here in this country. look after our own first .

Every single working person has donated to send aid to Haiti... it's called taxes and how else does the government pay for what they've sent and will send. Governments don't generate their own money... they use the money we give them!

Whatever you think are the worst conditions here in Canada...multiply by 1000 and that's what they have in Haiti right now. My sister was there this summer helping out and she said she's never seen such poverty ever. If you have concerns about where your money is going. The Red Cross gets approx. 95% of the donations to where it's needed, so you can't go wrong there.
As to guys chirping about what we own in comparison to what we give...that's our business and no one elses. Everyone does what they can and in the end it's all just what it is.;)
