It's a sad state when those that are out of work get bailed out and instead of preparing for the future immediately blow the funds on toys. It's also the reason that when sock boy wins a majority next year he will institute a Universal Basic Income. He has just bought the most expensive re-election ever with CERB. Debt doesn't matter anymore in the sock puppets world.

I'm out of work right now and have collected two CERB cheques. As Bogger said, 2k a month doesn't go very far...good thing my wife has a decent job or the mortgage wouldn't be getting paid. I can't believe the short-sightedness of people blowing this money on toys.

Edit: to the point of the thread...not thriving, but certainly not suffering. Getting lots of miles on the car on nice days, drinking lots of beer, my yard has never looked better. I have, however reached out to a buddy and former co-worker who is working in my former industry (non-oil patch) and he's trying to get me something to do....

Friend of mine buys and sells used trailers [5th wheels, travel trailers etc.] Normally sells 7 to 10 trailers in the months of March and April. This year by the first of May he's already sold over 40 trailers, most of them sold before they get back to the shop for repairs or detailing. He was saying most of them were being parked in driveways for there loved ones, pulling parents out of old age homes and bringing them home. Or having parents stay in the home and the kids stay in trailer...whatever. I can see a serge of used trailers coming up if this sh!t ever goes away.

Lost full time job in April, I'm getting by with my part time sign business [beer money, lol]. Mortgage done eight years ago.
Brothers work is crazy busy, they build mussel cars for the well off. They just started a build with a half million budget and there's eight other builds already on the go. We don't sit at that snack table.

Wife is busier than a two peckered billy goat, had to hire the daughter to keep up with paper work. One of her clients sells hand sanitizer and foggers...they just got into Persons Airport and some of the Hospitals.

I didn't apply for CERB, I can't see the Government giving anything away, some how this CERB hand out is going to come back and bite us all in the azz in the way of huge taxes. My $.02

A universal income won't happen. Although the Liberals claim to be for the people they are backed by a lot of large (yet crooked) corporations. These companies will squeal when they can't get cheap labor because no one wants to work.

So many interesting posts so far, I think we all agree that the CERB is gonna be the downfall, when it goes away what is gonna be the result? Many are predicting a depression like economy and think we haven't even come close to hitting rock bottom yet, I hope not cuz I already know of 2 people last week that committed suicide and things aren't bad yet, it makes me sad forsure. I would still like to hear more about the businesses that are thriving, it fascinates me and even though I am a little jealous I am so pumped for the little guys that are getting their turn, also what about the big corporations that are giving back to the community, any of that going on?

All the shops selling toys are sure busy. At least a week wait to get an ATV looked at by the dealer, RV dealers here are pretty much sold out, at least of the popular floor plans. We lost our trailer in a fire a month ago, and when we bought the replacement 2 weeks ago we didn't have much for choices. We bought the only under 35ft fifth wheel with bunks in town.

I think we are going to see another dip yet though, when the 6 months no-payments and the CERB runs out a lot of people are going to see tougher times. Maybe then I can pick up a used jet boat for a decent price.

Covid played a big part too. One of the dealers in town reduced their order by 20 trailers at the onset of the virus because they didn't think they would sell them, 2 weeks ago they figured they would have sold all of those 20 if they were on the lot. Pretty much have 2 ready buyers for every trailer on the lot.

Cheaper real estate seems to be moving quick too. My sister sold her house in 36 hrs. Went up for sale Friday evening and by Sunday at noon all the paperwork was signed. They even got a steal on the acreage they bought, everyone is having to buy in town because they can't get big enough mortgages to buy out of town.

Social insurance number and date of birth gets a 2000 dollar check, even if it is not you who phoned it in..it does not matter the money is deposited in your account. What a friggin Joker we have running our country.

Most of the RV dealers etc are sold out because the manufactures are having the same issues and can't get people back to work

Def not thrivin ...our sales will go from $1.4 mil to maybe $50k for the entire year! Covid has all but destroyed the travel sector!

Thriven- work is insane busy, I had the time and opportunity in March during lockdown to trim all the over expenses to run leaner and cleaner and I’ve made 2-300% on the markets. I was very “liquid” going into covid and saw the golden opportunity. My retirement plan has excellerated to throwing in the towel within the next 2-5years...or just go buy a dozen 850 turbos for friends and family and keep working...

We are crazy busy. As a large snow removal provider when covid hit March and April were good snow months so that kept us very busy. Now with everyone home our residential landscape construction business is the busiest it’s been in years as everyone wants there yards nice because there stuck at home.

I think two thing are driving this, the first people love to spend money, they can’t travel so might as well fix up there place, the second with every one at home they need a nice oasis to relax.

Good friends of mine own a company that installs pools, last year they barely stayed in business this year they are swamped. People love spending money.

I know me personally, despite being very blessed and very fortunate am only spending money on needs not wants this year and stockpiling money and supplies as I think things are gonna get really ugly. Let’s hope I’m wrong but always better to plan for the worst and hope for the best. Just my take on this. I’ve owned my business for 18 years and have seen many ups and downs but this is all uncharted waters.

I agree, friends of mine normally head to Mexico and Cuba every year. Around 8-9k for both trips they said they spend...spent the money on a fence and a covered deck. Bonus is I'm doing some of the work.

Nothing much has changed other than the fact that I have no construction work so far this summer. Not a big deal, as I elected to not buy a new sled for this winter. Seems the new kid on the block needs to get his foot in the door and then I imagine all hell will break loose and I will still be working at the start of sledding season.

Averaged about 20-25 hours a week in April in May, June was really slow only about 10 hours a week, July will probably be in between. Getting caught up on maintenance and repairs. Do mostly residential and not a lot going on right now. But from the looks of what's coming, August on going to be balls to the wall for the rest of the year. Have 2 months of for sure work, and maybe one job that will be 4 months work alone. Seems to be a shift though, all of the work is multi-family. No single family homes.
