It's fairly well known that the first year XP's had issues with their hoods not fitting properly, this was because the hood was made too large to fit in it's proper position. either one side or the other can be place in it's hole but never both at the same time. Iv also heard of people losing the hood entirely and running over it haha.
So after riding an XP for this season i finally had to do something because i was tired of reaching over trying to latch the hood or checking to make sure it wasn't going to fall right off. I remembered in the old days when i was riding a ZX Chassis we had double latch kits on our sleds. These extra latches saved those big hoods more than a dozen times, so why not put these on the XP hood, that sucker will never move. So i found out they still make them and you can get a kit for $23.00 before tax at your BRP dealer (Part# 861773900)
If i did it again i would move the peg on the hood a little higher and put the latch on more of an angle to hold the hood into the latch hole more, but this sucker ain't going anywhere !!! Install was pretty quick and don't need a whole bunch of tools to get it done. I put the latches forward because when your standing in front of the machine to get at the belt or for whatever reason you just pull the latches towards you and take the hood off like normal, quick and easy.
Heres some pics of what i did!
Cheers
