Well a few of us signed up for flight school the other day and with less than thirty minutes of training we are flying around, and landing.... Stress level went up quicker tHan elevation... Lol but all is good

now only 41.6 more hrs and I'm on my own, anyone know of a nice 4 seater plane for sale... Sure would be nice to fly to Revy versus driving them crappy rds

Have you done ground class yet? I'm surprised you were allowed to land with less than 30 mins experience. I'm at about 20 hours and landings haven't come yet. Lol

NICE FRED. i hope to start mine ASAP. i have the same plans to fly to valemount. airport is next to my house and we have a vehicle there full time so it would save us 6-8 hours a weekend. you will need a mountain checkout and dffinetly an instrument rating just in case the weather turns to chit.

Nothing more dangerous than mountain flying in a plane in winter,be carefull boys **** will go bad very fast.

very very true. i dont know about revy but valemount is a very short hop over the hills but regardless still the rockies. i want to get as much training as possible before attempting that.

at the same time i feel my chances of dying on that highway are extremely high everytime some idiot passes me up a hill around a corner in a snowstorm LOL

Have fun with it. I got my license in 74. I soled with 5.5 hrs. Broke the record for the flight school. I had a Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser for about 5 years. It was fun. Not very fast but I could land any where.

Im jealous. Been wanting to get my pilots license since I was 18. Just about taken the plunge 3 times now, but every time it comes back to cost. Its not just the cost of getting your license, its how expensive it is once you do get it. I think a decent 4 seater costs around $150 an hour wet to rent. I thought I would just wait until I could buy my own plane, but after doing some research found that it isnt much cheaper when you factor everything in.

Definitely a wealthy mans hobby.

I am by no means wealthy, and yes your correct the training is the cheap end, but we have a few of is that want to buy the plane together and we are after a nice 6 seater, we were told 100k... Soon find out

The day time flight school is around 11 grand minimum and night time is another 5 grand, yearly maintenance we have been told is 5 to 10k

I could run a strip and hangar at the farm fairly easy if it came to that ... But first priority is getting the license and likening it

I know a guy here in Creston with a beautiful twin engine six seater if you are interested. Mint shape and low hour. Not sure if you want a twin though.

I worked for a farmer when I was in University in Lethbridge that had a plane. It was sweet.....I would show up in the morning and we would have to go check which fields needed to be swathed. He would ask if I wanted to take the truck or the plane........hmmmm let me think. haha. So for the first hour or so of the day got paid a good wage to go flying around looking at crops. He had a hangar and landing strip right on his farm. Worked great.

You need to do a lot of hours so make your own olane worth it dollar wise. But talking to a couple guys you can't put a price on having your plane ready to go when and where you want to go. The more you fly the cheaper it becomes. And used aircraft really do not depreciate a lot.

Fred. Take a look at the piper Cherokee pa32-300. It has a high useful load fairly fast and fairly inexpensive. 6 seats. You may only be able to Cary 5 guys and a few bags before getting close to the limit.

There are very few aircraft that can hold as many passengers as they have seats. Especially a couple big guys. Due to the useful weight. I think the 32 is 1100 lbs full of fuel. So 6 180lb people.

Did a lot of research on twins. Twice the annual maintenance, more training, higher insurance, more expensive upfront, more fuel. Not a hell of a lot faster than a performance single. And statistically more dangerous for new pilots. The only benifit being reliability having an extra engine flying over mountains and water. And better climb rates to pull out of the mountains etc. However a lot of twins can't even fly level flight on one engine so it's a toss up.
