I for one, would not be opposed to implementing, and purchasing an alberta wide trail pass system which would bring funds back to the sport. I would also like to see alberta build a trail network system connecting communities and services like local restraunts/hotels/gas. Many other provinces and states have trail systems that connect towns and bring revenue into those communities. A trail from red deer to rocky would be great, connect the dots in towns along like way for services and access. I just read an article in go riding canada magazine where there are shared trail systems in ontario used by ATVs, horses and hikers, through mutual respect. There is power in numbers, and alberta needs to work toward something similar. Its unfortunate that a few fools give our sport a bad name.

No need to be alarmed at this point, I have finnally contacted the right people. The trails WILL BE OPEN as per normal on July 1st, as has been done for a number of years now.

you're on the right path, now we need to get another 1499 or 14999 people to agree with you pay their dues and form the association that can then go to battle with the government.

We would gladly pay for a yearly trail pass,BUT the money better be going back into the trails somehow.

So what would you be all willing to pay for a yearly trail pass? $20, $30, $40 per machine a year? Pass to be paid at regestration time?

I ask that question every time we are out riding with a group of people. The same answer is "you bet", "no question", but only if the money goes right back to the reason i am paying it!

Do the math.....$20 for every regestered ohv in alberta times say 200 000 units = $4 000 000 a year! Take $30, thats $6 000 000. And so on and so on. And thats only at an estamated 200 000 units. could be way off there.

Another one for you! Where does all the road tax money from the the gas that everyone buys every time they fill up a ohv and the gas cans to make it through the weekend, week, holiday etc, etc!

Two very simple ways to get income back into the system that should go directly into helping pay for grants, trail maintnence, trail clubs, etc, etc.

Just my $60.02 (one sxs and two sleds).

Kinda sounds an awfull lot like what the AOHVA is trying to do ( wonder how many of the complainers are members of that group ).
The bill to transfer OHV registration fees to trail maintenance/ establishment etc unfortunately died at the last legislature sitting.
As far as the Alberta Trail network goes, the drafts have already been done for NE Alberta, and I recall seeing ads asking for input for central Alberta not too long ago. There should be something on the SRD site under Public Lands.

you cant take that kind of money form ever atv registration, it has to be trail pass or something. most all the work (and worry) that srd guys focus on are all SW quarter of alberta , there is no way you can expect someone from fort mcmurry and milk river pay for trails and up keep they dont use. or even for "farmer joe " who keep his quad register just for crossing roads between fields .

I believe you are correct Sir. This would also let "them" make the decisions for alocation of funds. Stewardship of areas needs to happen and trail systems or areas put into affect. I have paid $70 a year for many years to the ASA and have never road a groomed trail in my life but they need my support. If the ATV community had something like this in place I would have NO problem supporting it. FYI....$70 a year is NOTHING...IMO...compared to the rest of the cost associated to the sport.

Well, our club has been applying for provincial funds for the last 3 years now with no luck. We compete against the playground groups, old age homes, other sporting groups ,you name it for a limited bag of money. If the registration fees went straight to the OHV groups, I'm sure we'd have a better go at it. The intent of the bill was not to add a fee to your registration costs, but to take a portion of those current fees and put them back into trails, not to have the entire fee go to the government's general revenue fund to do with what the MLA's please. So, regardless if you are from Fort mac or Milk River it's not costing you anymore ( assuming all the good posters actually register and insure their machines ).
I dont sled , so I really dont know how the trail passes work or who enforces it, but I know where I ride, SRD sure isn't going to go out on a weekend checking for passes. I'm 100% sure no one from our club is going to check/ sell passes either.
As the areas close to Edmonton slowly get closed down, you can bet SRD will be paying more attention to areas ouside of the SW corner of Alberta.

they do in the good ole usa. a once a year fee gets you on all trails in the usa, and they are state groomed to boot what a concept. i think they also do it in eastern canada
