Nt sure why you need pull start when you have e start. I've never had to pull one yet. Expect the e start to work same as in your car. Don't have a manual back up on those.

Need pull start when you finish a super deep weekend, sled packed full of powder, and get back to -35 degrees in Alberta. Sometimes the estart turns over, sometimes not. Either pull start or pull the sled off the deck/trailer by hand at 11pm on a Sunday night. Or leave it outside and possibly stolen

When your battery craps out all of a sudden in the middle of a trip with a huge dump, it sucks sledding all day with a Nautilus booster pack strapped on your tunnel that you have to hook up each time you kill the sled. In 3' of heavy pow that's all day getting stuck. AND the cables don't reach so you have to unstrap it each time and take it over by your side panel, then strap it back on. Then you forget and hit the kill switch again…F#%£%|€#£|%{#€|ER!

Sorry for your problems but with all the ES models that I have had and all the riding that I have done, I have never had a battery crap out on me. Maybe I'm a lucky one but in reality, the ES works everytime. It is a little different with the quad; battery issues all the time.

I was too tired/steaming/frustrated and forgot to take a photo. Nautilus was strapped on my cheetah rack. Got a new battery next morning…

99.9% of the time (had estart with no pull backup from 2012-2014) no problems at all
Now, and before that stretch I try and have estart and pull/kick on all sleds and dirt bikes

Ummmmm hello, that is what the back up pull cord is for, to emergency start your sled on the clutch

I installed the add on back up pull cord kit on my e.s, hidden behind the panel

Well that's a first. You carried a booster pack around all day mountain sledding Because there was too much snow around your clutches to pull start it? Is there a hood on your sled?

Anyone ever notice the difference in thinking between quads and sleds? ATV's.... will go so much further into the middle of nowhere... Strictly e-start... MOST of the time there is no backup or booster.... And no physical way to pull start them.... No spare belts most of the time.

Too much snow to not go sledding that day, nothing wrong with engine compartment.
At the beginning of the day thought the booster would be less annoying than using the emergency rope all day.

Easy way out is to have both estart and pull

Found a pic someone took

well, they do fail at times....last weekend in McBride, one rider in our group with 2017 Doo 850 had his e-start fail.

I've seen the odd failure on an estart over the years but usually on a sled that has a bunch of miles on it. I have seen 10 times more issues with rewind starters over the years especially ones on Doo as they have a habit of melting plastic pieces in them. For $200 just put a rewind starter kit on your sled as a backup if worried. Way lighter than that Nautilus booster you are packing around.

I remember in 09 I was rubbing it in all my buddies faces that I had e-start.... Up on the hill I hit the button and heard a loud BANG... Followed by a thump.... E-start motor was laying in my skid plate. gears didn't mesh.

I wonder about a Shot type system on a dirtbike (as we go further and further from the original subject)…

First start of the day is a kick on the bike then e-start all day, wonder how much weight it would save

I have both electric and pull cord. And will never own a sled that doesn't have both options. The SHOT system is a great idea using OLD technology. Hats off to brp for this add-on. If your snowchecking this year and ride a doo why not try this out? I think it's a great.

Cheers

The sled stated fairly easy by wrapping rope on clutch and pulling.

The trick was to get the guard back on while the sled was running and keeping all 10 digits.
Its a tight fit without he clutch spinning at 1200rpm.

Some grinding sounds every time I jammed it back in place.
Some plastic wear. lol

Yeah that belt guard is pretty tricky to get on with out a clutch turning at any speed. I'd probably just leave it off for fear of losing a finger or 2.

I'm more curious on what trade in value , or market value is gonna be for a black 17x 850 with 700 miles , pull start And no belt or bulk head issues . Let's say stock no accessories .
And what time of year if selling out right would be best .
