I would not recommend the Spot Connect. I was out for a couple days, hunting and walking, 30-40 kms from a charging source, and once the iPhone was dead, so was any possibility of communication. Also, not to mention, iPhones generally don't like cold... So, too complicated for me. I took the Spot Connect back and went for the Spot. So far, so good. Simple is good. InReach sounds good too. It wasn't even on the radar - oh well.

I have the spot that is paired up with a DeLorme gps you can turn spot to wireless mode and use gps to text to Facebook or twitter real time I got it for a Xmas gift from the fooks so the price I don't know but I won't go anywhere with out it we had to use it a couple of seasons ago choppers landed fifty yards from us in just over an hour of hitting 911 and the insurance option is a must it covered the bill

What insurance plan did you have and who was it with? Could you give us some details of how the whole process played out after you sent your SOS. Thanks

Picked up my spot gps sat messenger and got the messages all set and tested and it works good at home. Also sent in the rebate form so I should be getting $50 back as well.
Money well spent IMO as it gives my chick a little piece of mind when I'm up in the hills when I send her the everything's ok message.

The insurance is an option when u activate the spot it covers rescue for most countries
A fellow sledder had a bad flip when coming dwn a hill in blue river we thought he had broken ribs and stuff he couldn't move he started to get hypothermic
Early that day there were guys on top of the ridge that had a sat phone and wasn't getting that gd of service so when we pushed the SOS in bottom of bowl we didnt know if it worked or not so two of the group started heading back to trucks so they could call for help an hour or so later we heard a chopper I carry flares and a can of orange smoke fired flares the chopper done its avy assessment and landed a doc nurse and four rescue got out and loaded up our buddy the doc nurse and bud flew off while another chopper came and got the rescue guys they said we were lucky if they got the call in another half hour or so they wouldn't have flew in it would have been to dark and they would have done ground rescue when both choppers left the other riders showed up and said they called and got told help was on the way

I like to say thanks to the rescue team again if they are reading this our buddy was banged up pretty bad but no broken bones
