I want to powder coat a few parts on my 09 RMK including the spindles. Is there a good way to remove the brass bushings from the spindles without damaging them, or should I just be prepared to buy new ones? They seem to be pretty soft.

The bushings are like new (only 400 km on the sled), so I would like to reinstall them, although I don’t know how much new ones would cost. I’m assuming that it would best to remove the bushings before powder coating the spindles.

Just took a lot of my parts in for powder coat. If you can tell me what bushing it is, or part number, I should be able to let you know if they required me to take it out or not...

The bushings are at the bottom of the spindle (Where the bolt goes through to hold the ski on). I have some new bushings on order, so I was going the hammer out the old ones tomorrow. Each spindle has 2 bushings (one each side). The first one I get out will probably get mangled (I have to hit it at an angle), but I may be able to get the second one out undamaged.

If the bolt still fits in after the PC is done, why would you need new ones? Would you need new ones? Just wondering for when mine is done, not sure how much other stuff is going to have to be "custom" fit haha, thinking grease zerts are going to be real fun too.....

I pounded out the bushings this morning. The bushings are very brittle and just break apart. Anyway, the spindles are ready for coating now. I just didn’t want to leave any parts on the spindles when they are powder coated. Now I just need to remove a few more parts from my sled (slide rails, gas rack, front bumper, rear bumper, seat support, and the bars on the edge of the running boards). The vents I ordered from Holz arrived this morning also. I have so much to do, summer is going to fly by. Will be snowing before I know it.:d:p

I posted some pictures here.

GC Custom Metals on the south east end of town did the coating. They masked off the holes so there won’t be any problem installing new bushings.
