Polaris can have high horsepower, they need to make sure it is reliable. And make it reliable for years to come. Belt drive too.

In 2,800 km., my 850 Sportsman hasn't broken a belt or suffered one break down. That seems pretty reliable to me. Polaris haters have to accept it ain't 1990 anymore.

Ill admit they are getting better. If the new engines are still doing well in another year or two I will be impressed. The stories of guys having axle and engine issues are happening less and less and hearing fewer stories about fighting polaris for warranty is good too. I would buy a rzr 900 or 1000 but still unsure of their quads. Still have that bitter taste if you know what I mean. If you guys are having good luck with them then that is great. Hope it stays that way, as it should.

I would put the 850 up against any big bore (twin) any day.....They are a pretty reliable bike.....Just rode all week with a dozen or so rzrs. One canam quad, the canam diff blew up.........
IMO.......the reliability of the canams are over rated, while the opposite is true with the newer popos.......

I am not talking ware and tear items(brakes bushings etc) but 2500$ & up diffs motors etc etc....Rode with rzr 900s with 3500k and not an issue, the prostar motors are not only the most powerful in the game, but very well made too..........

Either way 88HP is a beast,no matter how you slice it...!!

good on Polaris... but you know can am will come out with something better and on goes the battle...
but don't be so hard on can am for breakage..... they seem to hold out better in the racing world... and in GNCC most quads are completely stock... Polaris is been breaking down lots too....that's why the tranny, frame and engine reinforcement aftermarket parts are out for sale already... don't kid yourself.. many new scrambler owners in the US and Canada that just want to never buy a popo again....and its the same way with can am...

I will get the low down this weekend by the pro's on the popos.... at the party Saturday night.....
flying in to New York tomorrow for the 10th round of GNCC

picked up my 1000 sportsman last week and my wifes new 850 as well. We raced them down the road, take a guess how close they are. I can tell you this, my 850 scrammy is faster than my new 1000, but I will try again after I put 2-300 miles on the 1000 unless the scrammy sells first. Love Polaris quads

what do you think of that goofy silencer and it's location. I am looking forward to see what the aftermarket brings so we can dislodge that creature.

I think its the stupidest spot ever, cant figure what they were thinking. My 1000 and the wifes 850 sound identical too. I guess not everything can be perfect. The size of the pod too is ugly, I guess they made it that size to house the GPS unit that the sleds currently use. Going on a big ride Saturday the 13th so we will see whats what.

took it for a spin this weekend.

its pretty powerful not as quick as a scrambler 1000 obviously but it should be good for the guy who wants to pull alot of stuff or possibly put on some big tires and make a mud machine out of it.

Rode mine this past weekend. Pretty similar to the 850 sportsman, a little more torque. Managed to hit 75 on the speedo, not bad so far, see when it opens up a bit what it will do. I ride with a bud that has a 1000 outty with some work done to it, will let you know how they compare.
