Hi guys
How do u like the news tonight on the county of parkland that is saying that u can't ride a quade or a snowmobile in the county unless u have a class 5 licence. I do believe that they have safty on their mind but I believe that a person with a licence doen' mean they know how to ride these machines, I,ve seen 40 year old guys with a child like mind. The biggest problem I find is that peaple use these machines as a baby sitter instead of using it as a family sport. My kids have been riding snowmoblies since they were 6 and now they are 18 and 16 and we have been in the mountains for 7 years and I always ride with them. The machines are mying but each one of my kids ride their own , my daughter is on a 600mm and my son is on a 1000 vector moutain and I ride a apex mountain. My kids can ride my apex anytime they want but when we go snowmobiling I go with them. These are the best times we have and we talk all summer long about the next winter. So to the peaple who let their kids ride the quades and snowmobiles by themselves should take a look at what they are missing by being with their kids and creating the great memorels that it brings. The times I have with my kids are the best times of my life and I hope it won't be taken away by the rules that are starting to be inforce to help protect our children from ourselfves because we are to busy with everything else in our lives than being with our kids. I see it to often where parents use sports as a baby sitter while their kids are playing they are somewhere else. I believe the more u are involed with your kids the less chance they have in getting into trouble and this includes in everything in life. Their are somethings they do we will never know about but hopfully knowone gets hurt when they do it . Sorry for getting of the topick but this really pisses me of that now u are going to have to be 16 with a class 5 licence to ride a quad or a snowmoble in the county of parkland because someone has to protect our kids from ourselves because we are to busy to ride with them and make sure they are safe. This is just the start because what happened with smoking it started in one place and look where it is now , soon u will need a licence to smoke to haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

so many rules and laws! I started sledding when I was 6......my boy started when he was 5. he started on his quad when he was 3.......today at 10 he can drive better than most 40 year olds and he respects his toys........this weekend he was at Snowarama riding my 310 hp Apex......some people said it was to much sled for him......but he knows what a throttle is and how to use brakes.......plus he rides safe. so as for kids not being able to drive there toys......WTF....... guess the goverment should just let them hang out on the streets and sell drugs or something like that!

give your kids something good to do and show them how to ride safely and it is the best thing for them! I try to get my kid into any thing with an engine from his quad (spring to fall), jet ski for summer, and his sled in the winter......I know he is not old enough to drive his jet ski legally but he does and he does it very safely. same with his quad! but no rules here for his sled YET!

Ya a real hero all the kids should be looking up to:rolleyes:
When he asked the kids how many had ridden a machine alone darn near all put their hands up. His comment, "I was afraid of that". (why is he worried about his new job?) Were the parents of the children notified he was coming to speak? Can I go to the school and tell them rock n roll will make them do drugs?
Just one more A$$HOLE in a uniform riding down the center of the road:rant:

Just the way it should be. Then when the kids ARE 16 they are riding safely on their own. My boys ride with me all geared up (proper safety equipment) or they ride the field within eyesight when I'm not riding with them. That way if they make a mistake I'm right there with them. Teach them young

I'm on the the same page Barry. You my friend are a responsible parent that spend time with you kid and teaches them the things that you have experienced an the way thing should be. Unfortunately for every one of you there are 10 others that just let their kids do as they please with no guidance.

I live in the county laws and rules Parkland in Stony Plain with more stupid laws and rules my son been riding sled with his cousins since they were 6 yrs old with adult supervision we use to take them empty fields and let them go round and round till they got right then I take my son on poker rallies and show
proper edicate now he a very good rider at the age of 18yrs old iam very relaxed when he goes with his freinds .He went from a 440 to a 583 now ride
slightly massage 800 mxz and look forward to riding every weekend .Were members of the Trailseekers sled club and hope more people come and let there kids learn the proper way of riding safely.Unfortunately it seem the bylaw
cops want to do is hand out fines .I been thinking of putting motion together
to the club and put a clinic together to teach young riders safe riding technique from understanding the snowmobile to hands on riding .I figure after
38yrs riding i might have something to offer lets see what happens :)

Yes very well said.......i'm sure there would be a need for this sort of thing if the counties are liking the revenue generated off the backs of the people.

Mike doesn't seem to get it's not giving your c
kids drugs and drop him at the mall its the idea of spending time with your kids and led them in the right direction and the mall is one of the worst places to let your kids hange out at.

These guys got nothing on the Sled Cops out here in County of Sherwood Park. New sleds, state of art equipment, guns, handcuffs and Gold laced Ticket books and not afraid to use them all just to catch a poor snowmobiler out having a fun filled day on the trail.

I agree with glen the Strathcona area has the most stringent rule book in all of Alberta and they are the ones who develop and bench mark all these rules. And they keep adding new ones. Look into it you will find that's where it all starting. I belong to the ASA and they are in constant conversation with the RC's and government out in Sherwood Park. in fact it's been getting so bad we've asked the RCMP to attend our Snow Angels Snowmobile Club meeting tonight again. We had them out a few years ago but as it was bad now are bringing them out as it's 10 fold what is was to now. Im really not sure that any of these new people in the local governments ever had fun when they were younger. They must of all just ridden horses and played backgammon in there youth. I had to hit the back key and remove the rest of what I really feel...

I didnt see the bit on TV but was pulled over in Parkland County (Parkland Village) 2 weeks ago with my 12 year old driving and me riding on the back. We went to the store and back (.5 KM) so I didnt have my helmet on (not smart I admit) when a peace officer pulled us over. He mentioned the class 5 thing and noted that kids are not allowed to ride on thier own. I said I was under the impression that if you were on the machine with them or beside on another machine all was good...the peace officer didnt really know for sure so I was issued a $200 ticket for no helmet.

I wonder if they'll outlaw the little electric quads kids ride in my niegborhood too! Losers!

I totally agree! Put the kid on at 16 years and no experience and that is like matches and gas!
